Dramatis Personae:

Scene 1: Intro / Monologues

Setting: Home

(Mini Monologues)
(Mia, Alison, James are all sitting in chairs)

Mia : I thought it wouldnt really matter, thought people wouldnt really care, I thought that by
this day in age, there would be a lot more acceptance. I mean, the people close to me accepted
me for who I am, but other people, they seem to have some to have some type of problem with
me being a certain way, I dont usually let things get to me, but this time, I let it get to my head, i
let it bring me down. I just cant do this anymore.

Alison: I never thought I would be the one to cause so much disgrace to my family. But
pretending to be something I'm not was just playing with who I really am. Finally telling my
parents who I really was, I thought their reactions would be much more comforting.

James: Being like this isnt my fault. I was born this way so I thought they were going to
understand my situation. Even some of the people im close with doesnt accept me for who I
am.

Narrator 1: Although their situations are different; the teasing, the lack of acceptance and
constant bullying all due to people and their expressions based on their opinions on their sexual
orientation caused their inner pain, and led them to question their own true self.

The following are only past brief moments in their stories of Mia, Alison and James.
Scene 2: Mias moment
Setting: Classroom / School halls

Narrator 1: Mia always had a hope that no one make a big deal about her coming out, that they
would just treat it as something that was supposed to be accepted, but of course, she knew
about the hard facts about reality that would soon pay her an unanticipated visit.
(Mia enters stage left, keeps on walking to find/take her seat, takes out book, pencil)
(School bell rings)
(Mia walks out onto hallways as she encounters staff)
Staff (Bully): Freak, Dyke
Mia: Just stop
Principal: I dont want a dyke in this school, you hear?
(Mia stares at staff in the eyes, Keep on walking)
(Low voice*) Pathetic
( Mia Keeps on walking, off stage right)

Scene 3: Alisons story

Setting: School Cafeteria
(School bell rings)
(Friend enters stage right, takes a seat)
(Alison the enters stage right w/ lunch tray, takes a seat)
Alison: So, what are we doing this weekend?
Friend: I dont know actually, I have to study for finals..
Wait, so, Alison, what did your parents say?

Alison: They didnt understand, and then they just went on a rant, and they told me they were
willing to get me back to . As they think ( air quotes) .. normal .. they didn't even want to talk
about it afterwards
So, I guess things are going to be this way for now on.
( Friend grabs Alisons hand)
Friend: Im sorry
Itll get better, youll see

Scene 4: James moment

Setting: School Halls
(Tyriek walks on from stage left onto stage right while phone)
Tyriek : (Laughing while looking at screen)
Katya : (Walks in stage left, Stacey then follows) whats up? Whats so funny ??
Tyriek: Look ( Katya then looks down on screen, gives an omg facial expression)
Stacey: Oh my gosh what a fag ..
James: Hey ! Whats going on ?
Tyriek: Nothing that concerns you .. (Katya and Stacey then give james a serious look, they
both shake heads)
Hey guys, lets go .. ( Stacey and Katya walk ahead, the tyriek follows)

James: Where are you guys going? I thought we were all going to my place after school ?..
Tyriek: (Tyriek from afar) Not anymore, we dont hang out with people like you
James: (Looks down walks off stage)

Scene 5:
Narrator 2: Each of those moments all different in their ways, but that was only a singular part of
their story ..
Mia: Although they filled my day with, well, with negative vibes, that wasnt the end, although it
was hard to focus on what did matter, I finally worked up the courage to speak up, I mean they
were ignorant .. so now the schools aware of what a quote on quote proffesional was up to,
and things are better now, and im ok.

Alison: For me, it wasnt all perfect, but, at least now theyre open to talk about, its not the
same, but its better, but at least I have other people who understand and who are always there.

James: The amount of isolation from the people that I thought cared for me didnt completely
bring me down, but it let me find out who was actually entitled to call themselves my friend and
although they left, I found people who valued 100 % of me.

Narrator 2: And with this, we end the stories of our three characters, Mia, Alison and James.
Unfortunately, their stories are not only a form of fiction, but a sad reality that many adolescents
of the LGBT community face today. Even if the situations arent the same, hate crimes and
bullying is a component that affects not only those who are being hated against, but those who
are near to them.
