Each student is required to provide classroom dental health education for two sessions (6 hours)
during the course. Students will be scheduled in groups and the school visit schedule is posted
on Canvas.

Classroom Visits
Students are scheduled for two classroom visits in a public school with a faculty member,
see schedules and student group assignments which are posted on Canvas. Students are
expected to meet ahead of time with their small group, and prepare and bring an outline of the
group lesson plan to the classroom visit. Students are evaluated on their presentations based on
the criteria listed on the presentation evaluation sheet which is attached to this document.
Each student must submit a written final paper by the end of the semester which is June 5,
2015. Forthosestudentswhohaveclassroomvisitsthelastweekofschool,theduedateis
extendedtoJune10,2015.Thefollowing outline provides specific details for the final paper
which should be written to include both classroom visits, and evaluation criteria is attached.
1. Please list the school, specific classroom and date for both school visits. Explain your
role in each classroom visit, and attach the lesson plans to the evaluation paper.
2. Assessment:
Describe the age range and your observation of the children and their health status for
each classroom visit. Describe your impressions of the school including facilities,
staff and environment.
What surprised you about the children and the school? Was it what you expected, and
did the staff and children react as you expected? Explain your answer.
3. Planning:
For each lesson, describe how you planned the lesson and what, if anything you
would change in the plan for each lesson.
4. Implementation:
Describe how closely you followed your lesson plans for the session, and describe
how you adapted your plans once you arrived at the community site.
What surprised you about the classroom visit? Was it what you expected? Explain
5. Evaluation
Were you able to complete the program ideally the way you wanted? Explain.
How effective was your program? Explain how you measured success and your
results for both children and dental students in the short term and long term.
