seeniority rights of workerrs who have dedicated the majority of their lives to a chosen line of work.   
“Why should workers entering the prime of their careers live under a cloud of doubt? For instance, why 
should a worker at the age of 45, after 20 years of honing their skills, be viewed as a detriment to their 
employer?  Why in the world should he or she have their livelihood threatened?  Experience should 
never be viewed as a negative factor when evaluating job performance. Yet that is just what Jonathan 
Bing has attempted to do. 

“As such, the New York State AFL‐CIO is proud to announce its endorsement of Gregg Lundahl.  Gregg 
intuitively understands the core values, beliefs and ideals of working men and women.  His background 
and advocacy on the issues important to working men and women make him the perfect candidate for 
this race.” 

Explanation of Bill: 

The legislation referred to above is S.7346/A.10482A.  Jonathan Bing was the prime sponsor of this bill, 
which would strip away seniority rights for workers at the city’s Department of Education. 

While the legislation as written applies to the city’s Department of Education, there is little doubt that if 
it were to pass, other employers and agencies would be lining up to get similar powers over their 
workforces.
