Course Description
The present course will be a conceptual treatise with minimal use of mathematical tools, aimed at a larger audience.
It will introduce the students to the fascinating world of Astronomy & Astrophysics. The focus will be to provide
both the theoretical as well as experimental/ observational aspects of astrophysical systems. This course can be used
as a pre-requisit for higher level course on Astrophysics and Cosmology.
Modern day Astrophysics (and Astronomy) is not only interesting but challenging as well. Throughout the history,
mankind has been curious about the so called heavenly/ celestial bodies, from our own solar systems to the world
beyond. The course aims to provide the fundamental principles and ideas within the realm of the Universe. Various
techniques pertaining to the estimation of the physical parameters of these astrophysical systems, theoretical ideas
about the astrophysical compact objects e.g. Neutron star, Black Hole etc will also be discussed, within a span of
about 40-42 lectures.
