Introduction and Philosophy

Introduction:
Frisbee golf, the cheap way to play golf! I always liked playing golf but I could never afford to do it very often. I found Frisbee golf when I got
to Lethbridge and was excited to find out that there is quite a few courses around Alberta and aside from a few it is free to play! All you need is a
few discs ($15-$40 a disc) and a course! To be honest you dont even need a course, you can purchase travel baskets from a few companies or you
can play the same way the founders of the game did; put a beer bottle on a stake and chuck a Frisbee at it hoping to break the bottle! Fun by
yourself and even better with company. There are tons of social media groups built around the game that organize tournaments, have group nights
(small weekly mini competitions), and bag tag challenges (when you sign up they give you a tag say for example #56, at those group nights or on
your own you can challenge players with a lower number than you to a match. If you beat them you switch tags, if not you keep your tag. The goal
is to get the #1 tag (best player in the group)). This is a great opportunity to get to know your community, get some fresh air, and try to improve
your skills. In my class, Id like to re-create this community. At the end of the unit there will be a tournament that follows along the same lines as
most real tournaments.

Frisbee golf may not be the most physically demanding sport and getting students heart rates up will be very hard. I thought about how to
do this lots and I dont think my drills make the students as active as I would like. My assessment will focus on skill orientation and building
these awkward throwing techniques into the students arsenal. I just want to see improvement and I want students to feel competent enough
that they would say yes if someone asked them to go without feeling embarrassed about their skill level. I have also included the research
project to make the game real to them, to show them that there is a lot of support out there if you want to keep playing. This is an explosive
sport, the throwing action is brief but needs to make maximum power right away. For this reason, I have included student discussion about
proper stretching and demonstration of these routines.
