My Philosophy Statement of Education

Ellie Jarrett

Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the

world. -Nelson Mandela

I believe that education is what gives purpose to the lives of children. It is a

childs ticket to joy and success throughout all of life. My role as a teacher will be to

deliver a high quality education to every child. In each child I will instill the idea that he

or she is a wonderfully unique individual that is here for a reason and encourage him or

her to make a difference in the world. I will push my students and encourage them to

work hard and chase after the things in which they are passionate. I will simply give the

tools needed for my students to succeed and guide them toward success, but I will

never do the work necessary for them. There is no reward in that.

Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire. -William

Butler Yeats

I believe that every child is capable of great things. A child does not know their

limits until somebody tells them what they are. My students will know no limits to the

things that they can achieve, because I vow to never define such limits. I will encourage

my students to think outside the box, to take risks, to be creative, to challenge

themselves, to think critically, to solve problems and to learn things first hand for

themselves. I will try to instill the values of hard work and strong communication skills

into my students. I believe within every student is a great speaker, writer, thinker,

inventor and communicator. I want to help bring that out in my students. I will provide a

safe and positive environment where my students feel as though they can pursue their
ambitions free of judgement, and ridicule. My classroom will be a place of

encouragement and love for students and thinkers of every kind.

Tell me and I forget, teach me and I remember, involve me and I learn. -

Ben Franklin

I believe that children learn best when working hands on. As an educator I will

always strive to involve and engage my students with every lesson that I teach. I will

encourage collaboration and open discussion to teach my students how to interact with

and learn from others. I will encourage my students to learn from one another and

encourage myself to learn from my students. I fully believe in the Reggio Emilia idea

that students are the second teacher in the classroom and the environment is the third. I

believe that there are countless lessons to be learned from children and countless

lessons to be learned by observing the world around us. I will work alongside my

students to discover these lessons and teach them to future students.

Intelligence plus character- that is the goal of true education. -Martin

Luther King Jr.

As a teacher, I believe that I am to do more than just teach my students math,

english, and other academic subjects. I believe that I should also be teaching my

students to be good citizens, with strong moral compasses and compassion for those

around them. My students will not only love to learn, but they will learn to love as well.

The best way to lead is through example, so I will strive to be a person of strong

character for my students to look up to, inside and outside of the classroom. I will hold

my students to a very high standard, both academically and ethically because I know

that they are capable of great things. Lastly, I will always believe in my students abilities.
