PART 1. Including all necessary arguments and explanations, list in the order of their importance

the top ten (10) most memorable notions, information, and/or new things you learned from this

course.

1. Throughout a project, you can never rely on every single team member. One must know

that you need to plan buffer time between when you receive a project and then the final

deadline. This past semester our group used every minute right before we presented, this

was not the best idea as we could have used more practicing time.

2. Always pay off your credit card debt. On several occasions, Professor Macarie showed us

what can happen when someone only pays the minimum balance. When showed an

example, you begin to accumulate so much debt, and start where you began you simply

are not paying your bill, only the interest that had accumulated.

3. Read the chapters! When in class, it can be easy to get lost when you do not read the

chapters. When reading in classes, it allows you to obtain a deeper understanding of the

subject material. Throughout all of my classes, I have definitely learned that reading the

chapters is imperative to understand.

4. We discussed extensively why it is so important to create personal financial statements.

Professor Macarie explained how banks occasionally mess up, so creating financial

statements is always a good idea to double check.

5. Making connections is a great way to land a job. Professor Macarie has explained that

making connections is almost as important as your resume, it is who you know that gets

you the job in many cases.

6. Understanding the basics is important before you are able to learn more in-depth

knowledge. In my opinion, Essentials of Business does just that essentials teaches us

the basics of every major so that we can get a feel of the different options, but also

teaches us the basics before diving in.

7. Speaking up and sharing your opinion is important for the success of the team. I learned

that speaking up and sharing your opinion to the team is not only beneficial for your own

academic and personal development, but also in the best interest for your class and team.

8. Dont be embarrassed to ask for help I have learned that it is important to ask for help

when needed. No one should feel embarrassed for seeking help, but those should be

embarrassed that simply let themselves fail at something without seeking assistance.

9. Be a part of class discussion being a part of higher thinking through classroom

discussions helps myself and others learn. Class discussions allows me to explore other

views and perspectives.

10. Utilize upperclassmen for advice: Upperclassmen have been in my shoes years ago, they

know what works and what might now work. Last semester Caroline was a great resource

to talk to when getting acquainted with UC. Upperclassmen love to help, that is one great

thing about the University of Cincinnati.

PART 2. Describe your personal experience working part of your team thus far. What are some

of the main take-aways and lessons you learned being part of your first-year Learning

Community.

As I discussed in part one, I have learned that you can never rely on someone one-hundred

percent to get a project completed. In the past semester, several times my team encountered

hurdles because someone on the team did not do their job. Furthermore, I also learned my

personal strengths. I as a team-member, and a team-leader am great at communication and

problem solving. However, I am not a creative thinker. In my opinion, knowing the teams

strengths and weaknesses is very important when assigning responsibilities. In the past semester,

we assigned responsibilities without knowing a single persons skills. Thus, the entire team

encountered hurdles. Now after completing this project, if I were to do the project again in a post

semester, I would assign responsibilities and tasks based on strengths. Finally, I also learned to

speak up. In the beginning of the semester I chose to go with the majority, then in the end I

realized that speaking up is in the best interest of the entire team, I displayed this attitude in post

projects.

PART 3. Conclusions - personal learning and memorable parts, including your academic

improvement and feedback.

Nance 4

As a team-member, I have learned a great amount in project management. As discussed in

previous sections of this paper, I have learned aspects that will help me in projects in the future.

Furthermore, I have also learned the best ways to study due to this class. I learned that studying

small parts at a time is the most effective way for me to obtain the most knowledge. Finally, to

sum up the paper, the most impactful piece of this class has been the opportunity to present in

front of an entire class and associates of large companies this was such a unique opportunity.
