BOOKING A TABLE ON THE PHONE & ASKING FOR

INFORMATION

(Template)

HEAD WAITER: Greeting, including part of the day (morning,


afternoon, evening), name of the restaurant/hotel,
person speaking /department, and offering help.
e.g. Good morning, School-Hotel, Peter
speaking, how may I help you?

CLIENT: Greeting, including part of the day (morning,


afternoon, evening) and say that you want to make
a reservation.
e.g. Good morning. I would like to make a
reservation.

HEAD WAITER: Confirms, (sir /madam). Asks when


e.g. All right, sir. For what day would that be?

CLIENT: Says when (days, month, period...)


e.g. For next Friday

HEAD WAITER: Asks number of people


e.g. For how many people would that be?

CLIENT: Gives number of people


e.g. It is for ten people

HEAD WAITER: Asks which meal


e.g. Would you like it for lunch or for dinner?

CLIENT: Says when


e.g. I would like it for dinner

HEAD WAITER: Asks time


e.g. At what time would you like your table?

CLIENT: Says time


e.g. At 10 oclock

HEAD WAITER: Asks personal details


e.g. Could I have the name for the reservation,
please?

e.g. Yes, its Oliver Stevenson

HEAD WAITER: Checks spelling


e.g. Could you spell your surname, please?

CLIENT: Spells his/her name/surname


e.g. Of course. Its S-T-E-V-E-N-S-O-N.

HEAD WAITER: Asks telephone number


e.g. Could you give me a contact number,
please?

CLIENT: Gives his/her telephone number


e.g. Yes, its 654987623

HEAD WAITER: Confirms the reservation


So, its a table for ten people, next Friday at
10 oclock.

CLIENT: Agrees and requires information


e.g. Yes, its perfect. Excuse me, is the
restaurant -la-carte or with set menus?

HEAD WAITER: Provides the required information


e.g. We have got both, sir.

CLIENT: Requires some information about methods of


payment
e.g. And may I pay with credit card?

HEAD WAITER: Provides the required information


e.g. Of course, sir. We do accept most credit
cards.

CLIENT: Requires some information about the location of the


hotel/restaurant
e.g. Excuse me, how can I get to the
restaurant?

HEAD WAITER: Provides the required information


e.g. Its in Oxford Street, just opposite
Picadilly Circus underground.

(The client can ask some other questions)

HEAD WAITER: Thanks the client and says goodbye


e.g. Not at all, Mr. Stevenson. We are looking
