The best way for a parent to help a child become healthier is to help balance their calories
An easy way to do this is to limiting high-fat and high-sugar or salty snacks
Good, healthy snacks for kids are A medium-size apple, A medium-size banana, 1 cup
blueberries, 1 cup grapes, 1 cup carrots, broccoli, or bell peppers with 2 tbsp. hummus
Children should participate in 60 minutes of moderate exercise a day

swimming and dancing
Limit TV/Video Game time to 2 hours a day
It is easier for the child to start eating healthier if the entire family is involved
Keep healthy food available
Obese kids have an 80% chance of staying obese their entire lives
BMIs that are in the 85th percentile to less than the 95th percentile are considered overweight
BMIs that are over the 95th percentile are considered obese
French fries are the most common vegetables children eat
Juice makes up 40% of childrens fruit intake
Obesity is unhealthier than smoking, poverty, and drinking
The cost of obesity is $147 Billion

Many children do not grow out of obesity

Being overweight immediately affects the childs organs
A child being overweight is serious because they are in their growing stages
A child being overweight can affect how a child grows and develops
Being overweight is caused by fthe oods we eat, our physical activity level, emotional
issues, stress levels, family dynamics, finances, and societal influences
Cutting out fat and carbs is counter productive
A low-glycemic eating plan which helps stabilize the surge in blood sugar
Low-glycemic eating plan helps people feel fuller after meals
Parents should model healthy eating and physical activity
Nagging, criticism, and restriction on foods dont work with kids
Older kids should be in more structured physical activity environments
Dont bring junk food into the house
Not eating junk food has to apply to the entire family
TV watching is one of the worst things for kids
While watching TV a child is not doing physical activity, they are most likely eating, and
they are watching commercials about junk food.
Forcing kids to eat a food is counterproductive
Forcing kids to eat foods will make them feel stressed when eating it. So they will always
pair that food with a high stress/anxiety feeling.
Hunger is the best motivator when trying to get a child to eat
They are now seeing extremely young kids with diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart
problems.
This website gave information on good eating/physical activities but it mainly focused on
how to encourage children to eat healthy and get a good amount of physical activity.
