Student Reflection (Thoroughly answer all questions)

How has this clinical rotation helped to define your role as a nurse? Please explain.
This clinical rotation helped me grow as a nurse because it was different then any experience I have had. It
helped me learn how to help my patient and the family. There is also a lot of collaboration that goes on in OB
and it was able to help me see how communication was key. This helped me grow as a nurse because working
with babies is the field that I have always wanted to go into and being apart of the experience made me excited
and motivated for the future.

Which objective did you accomplish during this rotation? How did you do it?
I accomplished prioritizing care and time management. I did this by assessing the baby and deciding what
needed to be changed in my plan of care. Advocating was also a big priority because the babies cant
advocate for themselves and the parents may not always be there so I was able to observe the nurse advocate
for her patients to the doctors throughout the day. I was able to accomplish time management because you
have to be very flexible when it came to caring for the babies because the day was constantly changing and I
was able to practice changing my care and making sure to set enough time aside to feed the baby and still
have time to assess and feed the others.

What are your goals for your next clinical rotation?

My goals for the next clinical rotation are to use what I have learned about being flexible and adjusting my care
when needed and being flexible throughout the day. Being able to adjust my plan of care based off of priority
assessments will help me grow as a nurse.

can perform the required nursing tasks but be a compassionate nurse as well. I look forward to watching
