Issue:

Paper jams can occur at any point in the paper path. This document is to address paper
jams causing 13.0000, 13.01.00, 13.30.00, 13.B2.D2 and 13.A3.D3 errors. These
paper jam error codes are usually associated with the paper not leaving the cassette
tray (no pick jam).
The 13.0000 error can occur on the hp LaserJet Pro MFP M521
The 13.01.00 and 13.30.00 errors can occur on the hp LaserJet P3015.
The 13.B2.D2 and 13.A3.D3 errors can occur on the hp LaserJet Enterprise 500 series
M525.
These no pick jams can be caused by the following causes:
1. Paper tray guides set too tight or too loose
2. Media that does not meet specification
3. Damaged media
4. Worn pick-up roller
5. Broken/damaged parts

This document is to cover proper tray adjustments to help reduce 13.0000, 13.01.00,
13.30.00, 13.B2.D2 and 13.A3.D3 paper jams (Cause #1 Paper tray guides set too tight
or too loose).

Initial tray set up should be done by removing the tray to easily verify the width and length
settings of the tray. Be sure to make adjustments to the guides before installing paper into
the tray.

1. Ensure that the tray width setting is set to your paper being installed into the tray. The
arrow on the guide should line up exactly with the line connected to paper size
designation. Note: There is a detent and labeling for standard media sizes. (Example
photo below shows width setting of Letter.)

2. Check the tray length setting is set to your desired paper size. Note: There is a detent
and labeling for standard media sizes. The arrow on the guide should line up exactly
with the line connected to paper size designation. (Example: photo below show
length setting of Letter)

3. Avoid loading paper that is damaged (ex. Bent, torn, dusty, wrinkled, and curled) and
or out of specification.

4. Preferred method: If opening a new ream of paper, be sure to flex media, length and
width, in both directions.

5. Load media stack from back-to-front to prevent getting caught on the rear guide.
(Example photo below shows media stack loaded against rear guide)

6. Do not overload the tray to above the marking shown below: (Circled in red in
previous photo.)

Note: Ensuring that the tray guide settings are in the proper position will reduce or
prevent 13.01.00, 13.B2.D2 paper jams.
7. When finished, gently install tray in printer.
8. These techniques can be used on all removable trays/cassettes.

Paper jams require troubleshooting to determine the root cause and the majority of paper
jams are caused by unsupported media, incorrect tray settings, or overfilling the tray.
Paper jams can be resolved remotely the majority of the time.

Summary or Cause:
Paper jams are typically a timing issue of the paper not reaching a sensor in the
prescribed time or does not leave the sensor in the prescribed time. Paper jams are
typically caused by media, incorrect tray settings, or overfilling the trays and less likely
caused by hardware failure. Troubleshooting must be performed every time to determine
the cause and resolution.
