DS3 R3 Tarmac Front Brakes Bedding

Alcon JJ1 Pads

1 Car bedding

Introduction:
During this bedding, it is important to keep the pad temperature below 500/550C (temperature
measured and displayed on the dashboard). If you have gone over these temperatures during the
bedding, drive without braking and use the handbrake to slow the car until the pads cool down. It is a
mechanical bedding (geometry of the disc/pads assembly) and the thermal bedding

Procedure:
Modify the brake balance about 2 revolutions on the back from the base dry tarmac setting in order to
solicit equally the front and rear brakes.
The complete bedding is done in around 20 km at the average speed of 100 kph
The whole bedding accounts for about 100 brakings, i.e. one braking every 200 m.
They are "normal" brakings, done at the pressure set point (see graph), which means a normal effort
application duration (for example, average deceleration from 150 kph to 100 kph).
No "left foot braking".
Very Important: If the deceleration is not in accordance with the effort applied, don not insist and
release the pressure, it means that the bedding is not yet effective.
The bedding finishes with 3 km at reduced speed to let the disc and pads cool down.
Once the bedding is done, restore the initial brake balance.

2 Mechanical Re-bedding

Introduction:
It is the mechanical union of disc/pads. To do when a set of pads, formerly bedded, is fitted on used
discs.

Procedure:
On 7 or 8 km, progressive warm up of the disc/pad assembly (without left foot braking), then 5 or 6
heavy brakings in 6th gear.
