EDSGN 100
Fall 2015
Civil Engineering Lab
Civil engineers are faced with many issues when designing site plans for any number of projects.
Two considerations for site design include controlling erosion and sediment caused by moving
water, as well as the management of post-construction stormwater caused by impermeable and
semipermeable surfaces. When designing these plans, some spatial requirements must be met to
store soil, equipment, and user facilities as well as control the disturbed area. This lab introduces
the design for handling such spatial requirements.
9) Using this new layer, trace all waterways within and around the Area Of Interest.
Design
1) Design a road into Point State Park that leads to a gravel pad that can hold the following:
a. 2 Tractor Trailers
b. 1 Skid Steer Loader
c. 4 Porta-Pottys
d. 25 x 25 Soil Stockpile
e. Additional BMP supplies
(i.e. Filter Sock, Culvert, Rip Rap, E&S Matting) = 600 sq. ft.
2) Hatch the road and pad with the GRVL hatch pattern and color DIC 2540.
3) The pad cannot be placed over existing walkways, though the road is allowed to intersect
existing walkways.
4) Pad should be maneuverable by all equipment.
Deliverables
1) DWF drawing printed and turned in that includes labeled roads, pad, buildings, and
waterways.
2) Electronic DWG file submitted to the dropbox on Angel.
3) Show and label all items that will be stored on the pad.
