the dedicated employees of
Environment Idaman Sdn Bhd
(ENVI) demonstrated their
care and concern for the
environment, by organising a
gotong-royong in Kuala Perlis.
The event attracted over 1,000
volunteers and was officiated
by DYTM Tuanku Syed Faizuddin
Putra Jamalullail ibni Tuanku
Muda of Perlis.
At the same time, ENVI also
supported the initiatives of
its Environmental partners,
by participating in the Fun
Run organised by Perbadanan

At the Group level, UEM Group
Bhd along with its subsidiaries
signed a Collaboration Note
and Memorandum of
Understanding (MoU) with the
Department of Environment
(DOE) to implement nationwide
awareness and environmental
education programmes.
During this quarter, Kualiti
Alam also continued its efforts
to educate our stakeholders
by conducting training on
Scheduled Waste Management
for the Ministry of Healths (MOH)
clinical waste concessionaire.
They also co-organised a Waste
Management Seminar with the
DOE of Kedah.
Meanwhile, UEM Group
demonstrated its corporate
responsibility by sponsoring
the Learn English Family (LEF)
programme, developed by the
British Council.
On a lighter note, this issue also
covers UEM Environment Sdn
Bhds Open Bowling Friendly
Tournament 2013. Its heartening
to see that our employees
continue to practice a healthy
and balanced lifestyle, in the
midst of their busy schedules.
On a final note, as we approach
the upcoming National Day
celebrations, let us strive to
increase greater awareness and
concern for our environment
amongst fellow Malaysians.

UEME
Strikes Again

The employees of Kualiti Alam took time off their busy schedules to
participate in a bowling friendly organised by the Kelab Sukan dan
Kebajikan (KESUKA), on 6 April 2013.

The tournament, which aimed to promote a healthy lifestyle and instill

the spirit of sportsmanship among employees, witnessed 11 teams
competing for the grand prize. Finally, it was Team Lekiu, from the
Engineering/KAMI Department, who emerged Champions.

The mens category was won by Abdul Karim Omar while Hafizah Mohd
Fozi topped the womens category. Prizes were presented by Sulaiman
bin Kamilan, President of KESUKA.

 Firing
60 youths together with 19 ENVI employees and representatives
from various government agencies volunteered at a gotong-
royong in Pulau Songsong, a diving hotspot located off the coast of

Up the Yan, Kedah.

Youth The initiative was part of the annual Kem Integrasi Sukarelawan
YSB 2013 organised by YSB from 10 to 13 April 2013, in its efforts to
promote volunteerism and teamwork amongst youth.

the Fun Way
The British Council has developed a programme known as LEF under
the 3-year English Literacy Programme, sponsored by UEM Group
(UELP) in promoting early English literacy among children and
parents.
LEF aims to encourage parental involvement in early reading and
enhances their storytelling skills.
The LEF workshops, which involve some 50 PINTAR schools nationwide,
are conducted by the employees of the UEM Group of Companies.
These volunteers are trained on various activities by the British Council
and are required to conduct 6 hours of training with parents.
During the second quarter of this year, UEM Group, UEM Environment
and Faber Group Bhd were actively engaged in several
LEF workshops at adopted PINTAR schools in Kuala Lumpur, Melaka,
Muar, Negeri Sembilan and Kedah.

UEM Environment adopted 3 underserved schools in Negeri Sembilan,
namely SK Senawang, SK Gadong Jaya and SK Sg Buloh. The first
workshop kicked-off on 13 April 2013 at SK Senawang with some 14
parents and 20 students in attendance. The second session, which was
held on 11 May 2013 at SK Gadong Jaya, Labu, witnessed 15 parents
and 10 children participating in the activities.
Parents were introduced to various methods to instil the reading habit
in their children, through the different modules of the programme,
such as sharing rhymes without books, sharing stories without
books, sharing stories with picture books and making resources of
Story Sacks.
The parents also learned tips on choosing the right books and creating
conducive reading environments for their child. The volunteers
showcased their acting talents, using handmade puppets and
accessories based on the selected story for the Story Sacks module.

In the last quarter, Kualiti Alam
conducted a customised
Scheduled Waste Management
Training for MOHs Clinical
Waste Concessionaire, namely
Faber Medi-Serve Sdn Bhd.
Participants received an
informative and enriching
experience at Kualiti Alams
Waste Management Centre,
learning about the requirements
of the Environmental Quality
(Scheduled Wastes) Regulations
2005, as well as the regulations
and requirements relevant to
MOH pertaining to Clinical
Waste.
The sessions, which were carried
out over 3 days from 23 to 25 April

Every year on 22 April, over
a billion people take part in
Earth Day. This year, ENVI as a
strong advocate and supporter
of environmental protection
initiatives, participated in the
MRSM Pendang Earth Day
Exhibition held on 21 April 2013.
Officiated by Mohd Subri Yahya,
Deputy Principal of Student
Affairs, the school received 4
recycling dustbins from ENVI
for the event. The exhibition
also saw the participation of the
DOE, Department of Forestry
and the Malaysian Handicraft
Development Corporation.
ENVIs booth was a hit amongst
the students and visitors as it
provided in-depth information
on recycling and ways to manage
waste, as well as the Companys
background, the types of services
it provides, as well as products
and equipment.
2013, received 20 participants
from the 6 states where Faber
Medi-Serve operates.
The training marked another
milestone in Kualiti Alams
foray in the Clinical Waste
Management industry. After
being awarded a full treatment
licence for code SW404 in
2012, Kualiti Alam is now
looking forward to providing
further customised HealthCare
Waste Management Training
based on the requirements
of the Environmental Quality
(Scheduled Wastes) Regulations
2005 and MOHs requirements to
concession holders, as well as to
the Healthcare industry.

on Waste Management
DOE Kedah and Kualiti Alam
jointly organised a half-day
seminar titled, Pentadbiran dan
Pengurusan Buangan Terjadual
2013, on 25 April 2013 at the
Park Avenue Hotel, Sungai
Petani, Kedah.
Participants were educated
on the usage of Electronic
Consignment Note (E-CN) at
a special workshop held by its
personnel, and were able to
visit the booths set-up by EISB,
Kualiti Alam and DOE Kedah.

In the Spirit of
Gotong-Royong
ENVI organised a special
gotong-royong at Kuala Perlis
on 13 May 2013, known as
Majlis Gotong-Royong dan
Perasmian Kenderaan Kutipan
Sisa Pepejal ENVI.
Over 1,000 volunteers, including
employees of ENVI, federal and
state Government agencies and
residents, came together to clean
up the states coastal town, a
hotspot amongst tourists.
The event was officiated by
DYTM Tuanku Syed Faizuddin
Putra Jamalullail ibni Tuanku
Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail, Raja
Muda of Perlis, and witnessed by
representatives from the federal
and state Government agencies.

The Perlis State Secretary Office,
Kangar Municipal Council, Perlis
State Economic Development
Corporation and Fisheries
Development Authority of
Malaysia (LKIM) were also present
to lend their support.
ENVI supplied 3 open tippers,
1 RORO, 1 backhoe and other
tools required to facilitate the
gotong-royong.
In conjunction with the event,
the DYTM Raja Muda of Perlis
also launched ENVIs new
compactors and vehicles which
will be used to meet the demands
for garbage collection in Perlis.

Another Golden Celebration
at RoSPA Awards 2013

Kualiti Alam and Kualiti Khidmat Alam have once again bagged the
Gold Medal at the RoSPA Occupational Health and Safety Awards
2013!

This year marks the sixth consecutive time that Kualiti Alam has
clinched this prestigious honour, in recognition of their Occupational
Safety and Health (OSH) practices. This is also the fifth consecutive win
for Kualiti Khidmat Alam since 2009.

The awards were presented in a ceremony at the Hilton Birmingham

Metropole Hotel National Exhibition Centre, UK, on 14 May 2013.

Kualiti Khidmat Alam was also the recipient of RoSPAs Gold Award
for Managing Occupational Road Risk (MORR), a recognition it has
received for the third consecutive year since 2011.

David Rawlins, awards manager at RoSPA, said: RoSPA firmly believes

that organisations who demonstrate commitment to continuous
improvement of accident and ill health prevention deserve due
recognition. Kualiti Alam and Kualiti Khidmat Alam have shown that
their commitment to such continuous improvement, and we are
delighted to honour them through the presentation of this award.

Friends of the
UEM Group displayed its strong commitment to the environment
as it signed a Collaboration Note and MoU with the DOE on 5 June
2013, in conjunction with World Environment Day 2013.

Environment Together with its subsidiaries PLUS Malaysia Berhad (PLUS), Cement
Industries of Malaysia Berhad (CIMA) and Kualiti Alam, UEM Group will
be working closely with DOE in implementing nationwide awareness
and environmental education programmes, in addition to encouraging
Rakan Alam Sekitar (RAS) membership.

UEM Group was represented by Nadia Hanafiah, Head of Corporate

Responsibility; PLUS by Dato Noorizah Hj Abdul Hamid, its Managing
Director/Chief Executive Officer; while Kualiti Alam was represented
by Azmanuddin Haq Ahmad, its Managing Director. Also present was
Mohd Yusri Md Yusof, Managing Director of CIMA.

The signing was witnessed by Datuk Dr James Dawos Mamit, Deputy

Minister of Natural Resources and Environment.

In his speech, Datuk Dr James said that all Malaysians must work
together to conserve and protect the environment, to further
strengthen the continued conservation and sustainable use of the
environment.

After the event, and to mark this years World Environment Day,
representatives from UEM Group were given the honour of planting
trees at Awana Genting Longhouse, Genting Highlands, as a symbol of
the Groups pledge to the initiative and to the environment.

 PPSPPAs Fun Run
PPSPPA sprinkled some fun into
environmental conservation
this year, with a Fun Run
theme at its annual Larian Kitar
Semula on 15 June 2013.
The run, held throughout
Peninsular Malaysia (except
in Perak, Selangor and Pulau
Pinang), was aimed at creating
awareness on the importance of
recycling as well as to promote
the protection and conservation
of the environment.
In Kedah, the event was launched
by YB Tuan Haji Badrol Hisham
bin Hashim, EXCO, Chairman of
the Committee of Local
Government at the Darul Aman
Stadium, Alor Setar.

Participants of all ages, including
school children, civil servants
and private sector employees,
as well as university students,
came together to do their part
for Mother Earth.
ENVI took part in the event,
exhibiting alongside other
participating agencies. In fact,
PPSPPA was able to attract 500
additional participants with
ENVIs support and co-operation,
resulting in a truly successful
event!

 Launch of the Integrated
Mobile Complaints Counter

Residents of Pokok Sena are now able to seek advice, provide

complaints or feedback regarding public cleansing and solid
waste matters, thanks to the newly established Integrated Mobile
Complaints Counter or Kaunter Aduan Bergerak Bersepadu (KABB).

A collaboration between the Public Complaints Bureau (Biro

Pengaduan Awam) at the Prime Ministers Department and the Pokok
Sena District Office, the Counter was launched on 25 June 2013 by
YB Tuan Haji Bukhari bin Abdullah, Pokok Sena District Officer.
ENVI and EISB were invited to participate in the launch.

Spearheaded by the government, the initiative aims to increase the

quality of life of rural residents. It is also an avenue for ENVI to educate
the public on the scope of work and services provided.
