QUESTION THREE
a) Using a diagram and appropriate waveforms, describe the operation of operational
amplifiers in double ended input and double ended output for common mode and
differential signals. (8 marks)
b) The differential amplifier shown in Fig. 25.14 has a differential voltage gain of 2500
and a CMRR of 30,000. A single-ended input signal of 500 V r.m.s. is applied. At
the same time, 1V, 50 Hz interference signal appears on both inputs as a result of
radiated pick-up from the a.c. power system.
vi. Determine the common-mode gain.
vii. Express the CMRR in dB
viii. Determine the r.m.s. output signal.

QUESTION FOUR
a. Perform the following arithmetic additions in the given bases.
i. (0101)2 + (1111)2
ii. (7F)16 + (BA)16 (6 marks)
b. Perform the following operations in the corresponding codes:
i. Add 3 to 2 in 4-bit Excess -3 code;
ii. Convert binary number 1001011 to Gray code;
iii. Encode the data bits 1011into a 7-bit even parity Hamming code. (9
marks)
c. Represent the decimal number 4096 in:
i. BCD code;
ii. Excess-3 Code (4 marks)

QUESTION FIVE
a. Simplify the Boolean expression ; (3
marks)

b. Draw the logic circuit diagram for the following expression using standard gates; (3
marks)
Y = AB =AC + BD + CD
c. An electric power generating station supplies current to three loads. When any load is
switched ON; only single generator is required to operate. If more than one load is
switched ON an auxiliary generator must be started.

i. Draw a truth table for the output signal to start the auxiliary generator;
ii. With aid of K-map, derive the simplified logic expression for c (i);
iii. Draw the logic circuit for c (ii) using standard gates. (14
marks)
