Instructional Set:
I. Introduction
a. My name is Hanna Feller and I am the dental hygiene
student that came to visit a few months ago. Who
can tell me what a dental hygienist does? So we are
going to go over a couple things that we talked about
the last time I was here. Who can raise their hand
quietly and tell me one job that our teeth have? Now
I need two more people to give me two more jobs
that our teeth have. I need a few volunteer that can
remember what we talked about from my last visit. I
need you to place these foods under the correct
poster. Instead of them being pictures, they are
words that you will have to identify between
anytime/sometimes foods. Now, does anyone
remember reading the animal tooth book last time
and trying to guess whose teeth belonged to the
animals? We are going to do the same thing today,
but with your own smiles! Remember when I took
pictures of your smiles? We are going to play a fun
game before we begin our activity! I am going to
hold up a picture of each one of your smiles and I
want to you try and guess whose you think they are!
Once we are done guessing, I will give these to Mrs.
Murkins and maybe you cane hang them up in your
classroom!
b. Students will be able to
i. Recall the jobs teeth have
ii. Identify the correct anytime/sometimes foods
iii. Remove play dough from Lego set by using
correct flossing technique
c. Purpose of visit:
i. Understand and recall the jobs our teeth have
and ways to keep them healthy and strong.
Identifying the difference between
anytime/sometime foods. We all have beautiful
smiles that we need to keep clean and healthy!
By brushing and flossing correctly we can make
sure to keep our teeth for a long time!
Lesson Body & Methods:
I. Begin by asking students to recall the jobs of our teeth
a. I will call on students individually to see if they have
retained the information that was presented by me a
couple months prior
II. Review what makes a tooth happy or sad
a. I will have two posters, one labeled anytime and the
other labeled sometimes. I will have names of foods cut
out that the students will need to place on the correct
poster.
III. Flossing activity
a. Dismiss students to their tables and discuss the correct
brushing technique using my tooth model. I will
demonstrate how to brush and floss. I will pass out
small Lego pieces to each child and pass out colored
cure pipes. I will go to each child and assist them by
holding the Lego piece. They will have to floss the play
dough out by themselves.
IV. Closure
a. Praise children for their work. After the flossing activity,
I will have the students place the Lego pieces in a pile
on their tables. They will line up for their next activity
with Mrs. Murkins and for presenting good line basics,
they will receive a sticker.
b. Thank them for letting me present to their class and let
them know they will have gifts in their mailboxes when
they return.
V. Evaluation Techniques
a. Goal I: Following the introduction, the students will be
able to recall the jobs our teeth have. 80% of the
children will know by raising their hands and answering
correctly.
b. Goal II: After the pictures of smiles activity, the students
will be able to identify which foods are
anytime/sometimes foods by placing them on the
correct poster with 80% efficiency.
c. Goal III: After completing the flossing activity, the
student will have removed all play dough from the Lego
set with 80% efficiency. They will understand that it is

everyday.
