Validity Rationale

Validity Rationale for the Assessment

Do not remove the information in this section! It serves as a

checklist for your validity rationale! Write a validity rationale in one or two
paragraphs for the assessment below this information text.
Include the following:
1. targeted grade level
2. valid instructional context for the assessment
3. state or district standards the assessment involves
4. which behavior relates to which standard
5. which performance criterion relates to which standard
6. whether or not a checklist is appropriate for the targeted standard

In the first semester of fourth grade, students will construct a

PowerPoint displaying their knowledge of famous Alabamians that have
contributed to society. The checklist will guide the students in their
performance and level of knowledge surrounding the content covered in
Alabama History, Language Arts, and the arts. This project will give fourth
grade students valuable knowledge concerning individuals from their own
state and give them experience in making PowerPoints that they may utilize
when presenting information in their future occupation.
The standards assessed by this PowerPoint satisfy the social studies
content standard that describes identifying Alabamians who have
contributed to society. This standard is met by the students presentation of
the Alabamian they chose. This performance also satisfies the
English/language standard that is described as explaining historical
information based on text by requiring the students to research a topic and
interpret the information they learned into their own words. In addition, the
English/language arts standard of conducting a short research project is
satisfied in requiring the students to research the topic of their choice and
including a works cited page to justify where the information came from. The
English/language arts standards of capitalization, punctuation, spelling, and
grammar are met in the requirement of all correct usage throughout the
whole PowerPoint. The arts standards of using graphics to communicate
ideas or feelings are also met in the requirement of at least one graphic per
slide.
