A. Analysis of your experiences as an intern using reflective processing techniques.
This past week at my internship placement, I was able to gain more insight into
event planning for the organization. I was able to create an event-planning checklist as well
as sit in on some event planning meetings. I was able to attain some knowledge on how the
process of event planning functions. Although not one event is the same, the process of the
planning can be very similar, if not identical.
I am not very familiar with event planning so it was very educational to be able to be
assigned these types of tasks through out the week. At the organization I work at, we do not
typically organize events, and when we do our big fundraising annual event, the CEO
himself organizes the event with his executive team. The services that we offer do not
entail planning and holding events within the community.
I also was able to learn about a new club that the United Way of Delaware has within
their internal staffing. The United Way of Delaware has a Sunshine Club, which
promotes sunshine around the administrative office. The purpose of this club is to schedule
internal activities of ideas that make the workplace a happier and more enjoyable
environment. I thought that this was a very influential concept within the workplace to be
utilized.

B. Analysis of your strengths and needs related to the performance of the duties of a
Human Services administrator.

This week, I was able to take the last ten weeks of event experience and apply them
to an administrative task. I was able to break down the critical management plan when
planning an event for a non-for-profit organization. My first attempt at the administrative
task of creating a general checklist was not perfect. It took some feedback and some editing
in order to become a successful checklist. I was able to collect feedback and use the
feedback to create a successful planning tool.
I feel as if the whole process of developing a tool such as an event-planning tool is
one of the duties that a human service administrator can be challenged with. I personally
believe that the key to developing these types of tools are to gain the required experience,
ask for feedback, and remain competent in ones own abilities.
My practicum advisor was very impressed with the end result of my event-planning
tool. She stated that I had very good insight and that I paid attention to detail while at the
events. She also pointed out to me which of the aspects are the most important while
planning an event just to further inform me of the process.

C. A clearly articulated self-improvement plan based on your analysis.

You may also include any miscellaneous information that you believe is pertinent.
Creating the event-planning checklist allowed me to take fist hand experience and
develop it into a step-by-step process that can be generally followed for any type of event. I
thought that this was a very relevant task that I was assigned to complete. I will take the
checklist with me and apply it to any events that I may be challenged with planning in the
future.
I also was able to learn this week how valuable the sunshine club is to the United
Way of Delaware. This week, they made shamrock shakes for all the employees just for the
simple purpose of putting a smile on the employees faces. I feel as if a group like this one
should be implemented more frequently within other human service organizations. My
reasoning being that we as human service professionals work to serve others, but we often
neglect to serve each other or ourselves.
