End of Year Revision

1) The historical events of MASADA what happened and why many Jews have seen Eliezers
response as the right one.

Zealots, we have fought hard against the Romans, we have escaped them once but not a
second time. 15,000 angry Romans have encamped for over 6 months to form a wall around
Masada, by now they must be furious. They are nearly here, the time they have been
waiting for. We cant escape our fate, but we can change it slightly. The Romans have nearly
finished their ramp, the time is upon us, the battering ram is prepared and they are already
setting the top walls alight.

Us Zealots have stayed strong through hard times. Around 1000 of us have lived here
peacefully for 7 years since 67 AD and never did we thirst nor hunger. We built baths,
houses and we have stayed true to God. We have lived purely before God, we are the last
Jews who are holding against the Roman. The Romans have already destroyed Jerusalem
and the temple without any thought. Nearly all of our people are either dead, or been
enslaved. Now, this led me to my decision. Would you rather be slaves for the rest of your
lives, let your children be slaves, do you want your wives to be abused by the people who
have killed many of Gods people and Gods holiest city or die in freedom!

As I said before, we have been true to God but other Jews havent, they have let Israel fall
because they havent been following Judaism heartedly. This is why we are being punished,
if some of us go down, all of us go down. This might not make sense and may seem unfair, I
agree, but this is how God wants it to be. Because we have been good and followed our
religion well, he has given us a choice.

I think we should deprive the Romans from the joy of slaving or slaughtering us. I think we
should commit suicide and die in freedom, if you don't want to, I don't mind, God has given
us all a choice, not just me. But what is the point of becoming a slave, you will die in the
end, but when you die you probably would be slaughtered or die of exhaustion.

If you do want to die in freedom we shall first burn all our money and wealth so the Romans
will be angered even more because they wont have neither any more slaves nor any more
wealth. Also we will leave all our food to show that we do not need necessaries and to show
that we didn't starve to death. Finally, we will burn our temple so the Romans will get
absolutely nothing out of this. It will be as if we were mocking them.

We will first let our wives die, then our children, after we shall slay each other. Remember,
we are the Zealots, and we are proud to be what we are, no matter what!!!!!!

2) Key features and traits of the MESSIAH according to Old Testament Prophets (not need to know
who said what)
He will be the ruler of Israel, born in Bethlehem
The messiah will be called the Prince of Peace, wonderful councillor
Your king will be riding on a donkey, triumphant and humble
He had no dignity or beautiful. Despised. He endured suffering and pain which is
ours.
His family will go back to ancient times
He will be king Davids Successor, his Kingdom will be only be peace
He will have a long life, and the Jews will be healed by the punishment he suffered
He is filled with Gods spirit. He will bring good news to poor, to heal the broken
hearted, to announce release of captives. To claim the Lord will save his people.
Defeat their enemies
Everyone will see his splendour, his greatness and power. The deserts will rejoice,
the flowers will bloom, the deserts will sing and shout for joy, he will give strength to
poor
He will not judge by appearance or hearsay, he will judge the poor family and defend
the rights of the helpless. Wolves and sheep will live together in peace and leopards
will lie down with young goats
He will prepare the way for God. He will purify the priest so they will make the right
kinds of offerings

3) The HISTORICITY of Jesus (evidence for his existence) two non-Christian sources, what
they say about Jesus, and why non-Christian sources about Jesus are valuable.

There are many extra biblical sources that state that Jesus exists. Such as the Quran and
different books. Also, another reason for the existence of Jesus is people died believing in
Jesus, I dont think they would go to that limit if it was just a hoax. There were many eye
witnesses that have written things down, and overall, they are quite the same story. Why
would the Romans become Christian, after they killed Jesus? Why would the Torah have
records of Jesus? Many different religions thinks that Jesus existed even if they call him
different names. Why would most of the worlds population believe in Christianity if it is not
real?

4) Chart to show SOURCES of the synoptic GOSPELS Matthew, Mark and Luke and especially
how they relate to each other (diagram).

5) The life of JOHN THE BAPTIST and especially the precise contents of his message.

Johns birth was unusual, because Elizabeth who was Zechariahs wife couldnt have any
babies, but when Zechariah was burning the incense in the alter an angel appeared and told
him he would have a baby.
John chose to preach his message in the desert. This seems a bit odd because if he wants to
get his message across a desert might not seem like the best place because there is no one
out there. He chose this place so he could do things in freedom and he chose to go into the
desert because people can choose if they want to see him or not. He chooses to be with
God

John wore clothes made out of camels hair with a leather belt around his waist. He ate
locusts and wild honey.
The heart of John message was to tell people to be baptised so God will forgive your sins. He
said things like if you have two give one to someone who doesnt have any. Share your food.
Dont take more money than what is legal, and so on. The initiation rite is baptism. Finally
the Messiah is coming.
One reason John is called the 2nd Elijah because he said he was making a straight path for
the Lord to travel. Also, second reason is that he is preaching. He finally wore the same
clothes and ate the same things as him.
You will be baptised by the Holy Spirit and fire. This is when you will know when the messiah
will come. The Holy Spirit came upon him when John baptised Jesus and it said, You are my
dear Son. I am pleased with you.
Herod captured John. When he was drunk he said to his daughter that she could have
anything she wanted. She said that she wanted Johns head on a plate because she wasnt
ready for the Messiah.

6) A) What is a PARABLE? And why did Jesus use them?

b) Be able to relate several parables, and their meaning for example:

I. the three parables of the lost, especially the lost son (Gods attitude to the lost)

ii. The Good Samaritan

iii. The unforgiving servant

A story with a meaning. Jesus parables were about how we should treat one another
(ethics), and about the character of God (theology)

[Para ballo = I put beside a spiritual/ethical teaching is given an earthy parallel.

Why did Jesus teach parables (stories with a meaning?)

People was remember parables better than stories

It will be more interesting for the listener
Stories get passed on
Lots of people those days, couldnt read or write
Jesus gives examples, not just a principle
People can relate to stories
It makes Jesus stand out
Jesus gives common situations
There are a lot of different scenarios
Jesus lets people make their own decision
Other preachers just tell you what to do.

Luke 15:11-32New International Version (NIV)

The Parable of the Lost Son

11 Jesus continued: There was a man who had two sons. 12 The younger one said to his
father, Father, give me my share of the estate. So he divided his property between them.

13 Not long after that, the younger son got together all he had, set off for a distant country
and there squandered his wealth in wild living. 14 After he had spent everything, there was a
severe famine in that whole country, and he began to be in need. 15 So he went and hired
himself out to a citizen of that country, who sent him to his fields to feed pigs. 16 He longed
to fill his stomach with the pods that the pigs were eating, but no one gave him anything.

17 When he came to his senses, he said, How many of my fathers hired servants have food
to spare, and here I am starving to death! 18 I will set out and go back to my father and say
to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. 19 I am no longer worthy to be
called your son; make me like one of your hired servants. 20 So he got up and went to his
father.
Yusef Mohammed Rem D

But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for
him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.

21 Theson said to him, Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no
longer worthy to be called your son.

22
But the father said to his servants, Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a
ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. 23 Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Lets have a
feast and celebrate. 24 For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is
found. So they began to celebrate.

25 Meanwhile, the older son was in the field. When he came near the house, he heard
music and dancing. 26 So he called one of the servants and asked him what was going on.
27 Your brother has come, he replied, and your father has killed the fattened calf because

he has him back safe and sound.

28 The older brother became angry and refused to go in. So his father went out and pleaded
with him. 29 But he answered his father, Look! All these years Ive been slaving for you and
never disobeyed your orders. Yet you never gave me even a young goat so I could celebrate
with my friends. 30 But when this son of yours who has squandered your property with
prostitutes comes home, you kill the fattened calf for him!

31 Myson, the father said, you are always with me, and everything I have is yours. 32 But
we had to celebrate and be glad, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again;
he was lost and is found.

Luke 15:8-10New International Version (NIV)

The Parable of the Lost Coin
8 Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins[a] and loses one. Doesnt she light a lamp, sweep

the house and search carefully until she finds it? 9 And when she finds it, she calls her friends
and neighbors together and says, Rejoice with me; I have found my lost coin. 10 In the same
way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who
repents.

Luke 15New International Version (NIV)

The Parable of the Lost Sheep

15 Now the tax collectors and sinners were all gathering around to hear Jesus. 2 But the
Pharisees and the teachers of the law muttered, This man welcomes sinners and eats with
them.

3 Then Jesus told them this parable: 4 Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses
one of them. Doesnt he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost
Yusef Mohammed Rem D

sheep until he finds it? 5 And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders 6 and goes
home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, Rejoice with me; I have
found my lost sheep. 7 I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven
over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to
repent.

Luke 10:25-37New International Version (NIV)

The Parable of the Good Samaritan

25 Onone occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. Teacher, he asked, what
must I do to inherit eternal life?

26
What is written in the Law? he replied. How do you read it?

27 He answered, Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with
all your strength and with all your mind[a]; and, Love your neighbor as yourself.[b]

28 You have answered correctly, Jesus replied. Do this and you will live.

29 But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, And who is my neighbor?

30 Inreply Jesus said: A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was
attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him
half dead. 31 A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man,
he passed by on the other side. 32 So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him,
passed by on the other side. 33 But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was;
and when he saw him, he took pity on him. 34 He went to him and bandaged his wounds,
pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and
took care of him. 35 The next day he took out two denarii[c] and gave them to the innkeeper.
Look after him, he said, and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you
may have.

36 Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of
robbers?

37
The expert in the law replied, The one who had mercy on him.

Jesus told him, Go and do likewise.

7) The CHARACTER OF JESUS key features of his character with evidence from the
Gospels.

Jesus was a very thoughtful because even though he is in much pain he is praying for other
people
Jesus is very giving because when children wanted to go to him, his disciples scolded them
but then he said, the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.
Yusef Mohammed Rem D

Jesus follows Gods word because when Jesus went into the temple and began to drive out
the merchants because he says they have turned it into a place of thieves
Jesus is very good with words, this is because when people went up to him and asked if they
should pay taxes he said pay Caesar what belongs to Caesar but give God what belongs to
God.
Jesus was well respected because when he returned to Galilee, he taught in Synagogues and
many people praised him
Jesus is very kind because on Sabbath he is not supposed to do anything so some Pharisees
come and see if he would heal. Even though Jesus knew their intentions he still helped the
sick person
Jesus is very Godly because even though he died he has come back to life
Jesus was knowledgeable and a teacher because it says he told the parable to all of them.
Jesus can sense things and can tell the future. This is because when Jesus sat down to
Passover he said, eat so much before he suffers.
Jesus thinks the best in people because when the girl sinner came he forgives her. Your sins
are forgiven.
Jesus doesnt care who other people think of him because even though he know people
thinks that he should not forgive the sinner he does it. Your faith has saved you.
Jesus is friendly because most people or men dont think highly of women but Jesus have
befriended ladies. Martha opened her home to him.
Jesus was very popular because a Tax-Collector wanted to see him but he was short so he
couldnt see so he climbed up a tree to see him.
Jesus was friendly because it says a Pharisee invited him eat with him so he went down and
sat down to eat.
He spoke directly as well. Teacher, when you say this, you insult us too. How long do I have
to put up with you?
Jesus had Gods touch. Because it says that Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him.
I do want to, he answered. Be clean. At once the disease left the man.
Thoughtful, Jesus was this because when, a funeral procession was coming out, the Lords
saw her and his heart was filled with pity for her.
Jesus was Godly because it says that, Jesus got up and gave an order to the wind and the
stormy weather; they died down
Jesus is very giving because he says to God that, his will be done.
Jesus was authoritative because it says in the bible. He spoke with authority and they were
all amazed at the way he spoke. Ch.4v.32
Jesus was loved because it says, at day break, Jesus left and they tried to keep him from
leaving. Chv.v.42
Jesus was knowledgeable person because it says Jesus knew their thoughts.
Jesus knows most things because he said that, My mother and brothers are those who hear
the words of God and obey it.

8) More on the TEACHINGS OF JESUS Include some of the values Jesus championed (from
his sermon on the mountain in Matthew 5-7 egg. the log in the eye)
Yusef Mohammed Rem D

Jesus and FORGIVENESS Jesus encounter with the woman caught in adultery, the
forgiveness element in the Lords Prayer, and in Jesus parable teaching (eg. the lost son)

1. The father gives freedom and extravagance to his son like God lets people live on
their own free will. He divided his property between them. God wants people to
come back on the right path, but force everyone to do so.

The father is like God because he is looking for the lost son to come back onto the
right path. And when the son has, he threw his arms around him and kissed him.
After he rejoices with all of his families and friends.

2. The father doesnt remonstrate because Jesus portrays the father as God and God
lets people have freedom as I have said before.

3. The son has all the money he asked for and all of his will. So he goes away from his
father (God) and does all of the things that he couldnt do with his father. So he is
not following God. He goes on the wrong path till he has sent all of his money and is
at the lowest of the low. Then he realises that he should go back to the good path
and back to the values of his father (God). Also he realises that his fathers way of
living is better implying that Gods way of life is better.

4. a) The elder brothers response was angry. This is because even though he has
followed his fathers orders, Gods orders, he didnt get as much as when his brother
came back from being a sinner to his father.

b) His Brothers response is wrong because he is a religious person and some religious
people dont get what religion is about. People on the farm (living with God) should
be happy and embrace the world. Instead he doesnt enjoy life and rejects the party,
a happy life and the fattened calf.

c) I think that the Pharisees represent the elder son in Jesuss day. Nowadays it
would be a person who is religious but doesnt enjoy his life. Maybe a priest.

3
The teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery. They
made her stand before the group 4 and said to Jesus, Teacher, this woman was caught in
the act of adultery. 5 In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do
you say? 6 They were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him.

But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. 7 When they kept on
questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, Let any one of you who is without
sin be the first to throw a stone at her. 8 Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground.
Yusef Mohammed Rem D

9 Atthis, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only
Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there. 10 Jesus straightened up and asked her,
Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?

11 No one, sir, she said.

Then neither do I condemn you, Jesus declared. Go now and leave your life of sin.

1. The womans crime was adultery

2. The punishment that the Torah states is that the woman gets stoned
3. I think that Jesus started to write on the floor so he could calm everyone around him
down and to take the attention of the girl
4. He said that if anyone hadnt sinned they could stone her
5. Jesus goes back down to his knees and starts to write on the ground
6. Because the elder people have performed the most sins
7. Jesus told the woman that he will not condemn her and he told hr to leave her life of
sin
8. I think that Jesus dealt with the situation well because he sensed that it was a trick
and took the attention off the woman, which calmed the situation.
The log in the eye
Dont judge others, so that God will not judge you and dont try and fix someone else when
you have a bigger problem yourself. Dont easily criticise people
Why do you see the speck in your neighbours eye but do not notice the log in your own
eye. First take out the log in your own eye then help your neighbour,
9) MIRACLES a) the two Greek words used for Jesus miracles in the New Testament and
how their meaning draws out the meaning of Jesus miracles.
b) Four types of miracle with a specific (briefly told) example of each

The Death of Lazarus

11 Now a man named Lazarus was sick. He was from Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister Martha. 2 (This Mary, whose brother
Lazarus now lay sick, was the same one who poured perfume on the Lord and wiped his feet with her hair.) 3 So the sisters sent word to
Jesus, Lord, the one you love is sick.

4
When he heard this, Jesus said, This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for Gods glory so that Gods Son may be glorified through it.
5
Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus. 6 So when he heard that Lazarus was sick, he stayed where he was two more days,
7
and then he said to his disciples, Let us go back to Judea.

8
But Rabbi, they said, a short while ago the Jews there tried to stone you, and yet you are going back?

9
Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours of daylight? Anyone who walks in the daytime will not stumble, for they see by this worlds
light. 10 It is when a person walks at night that they stumble, for they have no light.

11
After he had said this, he went on to tell them, Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep; but I am going there to wake him up.

12
His disciples replied, Lord, if he sleeps, he will get better. 13 Jesus had been speaking of his death, but his disciples thought he meant
natural sleep.

14
So then he told them plainly, Lazarus is dead, 15 and for your sake I am glad I was not there, so that you may believe. But let us go to
him.
Yusef Mohammed Rem D

16
Then Thomas (also known as Didymus[a]) said to the rest of the disciples, Let us also go, that we may die with him.

Jesus Comforts the Sisters of Lazarus

17
On his arrival, Jesus found that Lazarus had already been in the tomb for four days. 18 Now Bethany was less than two miles[b] from
Jerusalem, 19 and many Jews had come to Martha and Mary to comfort them in the loss of their brother. 20 When Martha heard that Jesus
was coming, she went out to meet him, but Mary stayed at home.

21
Lord, Martha said to Jesus, if you had been here, my brother would not have died. 22 But I know that even now God will give you
whatever you ask.

23
Jesus said to her, Your brother will rise again.

24
Martha answered, I know he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.

25
Jesus said to her, I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; 26 and whoever lives by
believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?

27
Yes, Lord, she replied, I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, who is to come into the world.

28
After she had said this, she went back and called her sister Mary aside. The Teacher is here, she said, and is asking for you. 29 When
Mary heard this, she got up quickly and went to him. 30 Now Jesus had not yet entered the village, but was still at the place where Martha
had met him. 31 When the Jews who had been with Mary in the house, comforting her, noticed how quickly she got up and went out, they
followed her, supposing she was going to the tomb to mourn there.

32
When Mary reached the place where Jesus was and saw him, she fell at his feet and said, Lord, if you had been here, my brother would
not have died.

33
When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who had come along with her also weeping, he was deeply moved in spirit and troubled.
34
Where have you laid him? he asked.

Come and see, Lord, they replied.

35
Jesus wept.

36
Then the Jews said, See how he loved him!

37
But some of them said, Could not he who opened the eyes of the blind man have kept this man from dying?

Jesus Raises Lazarus From the Dead

38
Jesus, once more deeply moved, came to the tomb. It was a cave with a stone laid across the entrance. 39 Take away the stone, he said.

But, Lord, said Martha, the sister of the dead man, by this time there is a bad odor, for he has been there four days.

40
Then Jesus said, Did I not tell you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?

41
So they took away the stone. Then Jesus looked up and said, Father, I thank you that you have heard me. 42 I knew that you always hear
me, but I said this for the benefit of the people standing here, that they may believe that you sent me.

43
When he had said this, Jesus called in a loud voice, Lazarus, come out! 44 The dead man came out, his hands and feet wrapped with
strips of linen, and a cloth around his face.

Jesus said to them, Take off the grave clothes and let him go.

The Plot to Kill Jesus

45
Therefore many of the Jews who had come to visit Mary, and had seen what Jesus did, believed in him. 46 But some of them went to the
Pharisees and told them what Jesus had done. 47 Then the chief priests and the Pharisees called a meeting of the Sanhedrin.
Yusef Mohammed Rem D

What are we accomplishing? they asked. Here is this man performing many signs. 48 If we let him go on like this, everyone will believe in
him, and then the Romans will come and take away both our temple and our nation.

49
Then one of them, named Caiaphas, who was high priest that year, spoke up, You know nothing at all! 50 You do not realize that it is
better for you that one man die for the people than that the whole nation perish.

51
He did not say this on his own, but as high priest that year he prophesied that Jesus would die for the Jewish nation, 52 and not only for
that nation but also for the scattered children of God, to bring them together and make them one. 53 So from that day on they plotted to
take his life.

54
Therefore Jesus no longer moved about publicly among the people of Judea. Instead he withdrew to a region near the wilderness, to a
village called Ephraim, where he stayed with his disciples.

Jesus Calms the Storm

35
That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, Let us go over to the other side. 36 Leaving the crowd behind, they took him
along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. 37 A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so
that it was nearly swamped. 38 Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, Teacher, dont you
care if we drown?

39
He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, Quiet! Be still! Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.

40
He said to his disciples, Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?

41
They were terrified and asked each other, Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!

Jesus Heals a Demon-Possessed Man

5 So they arrived at the other side of the lake, in the region of the Gerasenes.[a] 2 When Jesus climbed out of the boat, a man possessed by
an evil[b] spirit came out from the tombs to meet him. 3 This man lived in the burial caves and could no longer be restrained, even with a
chain. 4 Whenever he was put into chains and shacklesas he often washe snapped the chains from his wrists and smashed the
shackles. No one was strong enough to subdue him. 5 Day and night he wandered among the burial caves and in the hills, howling and
cutting himself with sharp stones.

6
When Jesus was still some distance away, the man saw him, ran to meet him, and bowed low before him. 7 With a shriek, he screamed,
Why are you interfering with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? In the name of God, I beg you, dont torture me! 8 For Jesus had
already said to the spirit, Come out of the man, you evil spirit.

9
Then Jesus demanded, What is your name?

And he replied, My name is Legion, because there are many of us inside this man. 10 Then the evil spirits begged him again and again not
to send them to some distant place.

11
There happened to be a large herd of pigs feeding on the hillside nearby. 12 Send us into those pigs, the spirits begged. Let us enter
them.

13
So Jesus gave them permission. The evil spirits came out of the man and entered the pigs, and the entire herd of about 2,000 pigs
plunged down the steep hillside into the lake and drowned in the water.

14
The herdsmen fled to the nearby town and the surrounding countryside, spreading the news as they ran. People rushed out to see what
had happened. 15 A crowd soon gathered around Jesus, and they saw the man who had been possessed by the legion of demons. He was
sitting there fully clothed and perfectly sane, and they were all afraid. 16 Then those who had seen what happened told the others about
the demon-possessed man and the pigs. 17 And the crowd began pleading with Jesus to go away and leave them alone.

18
As Jesus was getting into the boat, the man who had been demon possessed begged to go with him. 19 But Jesus said, No, go home to
your family, and tell them everything the Lord has done for you and how merciful he has been. 20 So the man started off to visit the Ten
Towns[c] of that region and began to proclaim the great things Jesus had done for him; and everyone was amazed at what he told them.
Yusef Mohammed Rem D

Jesus Heals in Response to Faith

21
Jesus got into the boat again and went back to the other side of the lake, where a large crowd gathered around him on the shore. 22 Then
a leader of the local synagogue, whose name was Jairus, arrived. When he saw Jesus, he fell at his feet, 23 pleading fervently with him. My
little daughter is dying, he said. Please come and lay your hands on her; heal her so she can live.

24
Jesus went with him, and all the people followed, crowding around him. 25 A woman in the crowd had suffered for twelve years with
constant bleeding. 26 She had suffered a great deal from many doctors, and over the years she had spent everything she had to pay them,
but she had gotten no better. In fact, she had gotten worse. 27 She had heard about Jesus, so she came up behind him through the crowd
and touched his robe. 28 For she thought to herself, If I can just touch his robe, I will be healed. 29 Immediately the bleeding stopped, and
she could feel in her body that she had been healed of her terrible condition.

30
Jesus realized at once that healing power had gone out from him, so he turned around in the crowd and asked, Who touched my
robe?

31
His disciples said to him, Look at this crowd pressing around you. How can you ask, Who touched me?

32
But he kept on looking around to see who had done it. 33 Then the frightened woman, trembling at the realization of what had happened
to her, came and fell to her knees in front of him and told him what she had done. 34 And he said to her, Daughter, your faith has made
you well. Go in peace. Your suffering is over.

35
While he was still speaking to her, messengers arrived from the home of Jairus, the leader of the synagogue. They told him, Your
daughter is dead. Theres no use troubling the Teacher now.

36
But Jesus overheard[d] them and said to Jairus, Dont be afraid. Just have faith.

37
Then Jesus stopped the crowd and wouldnt let anyone go with him except Peter, James, and John (the brother of James). 38 When they
came to the home of the synagogue leader, Jesus saw much commotion and weeping and wailing. 39 He went inside and asked, Why all
this commotion and weeping? The child isnt dead; shes only asleep.

40
The crowd laughed at him. But he made them all leave, and he took the girls father and mother and his three disciples into the room
where the girl was lying. 41 Holding her hand, he said to her, Talitha koum, which means Little girl, get up! 42 And the girl, who was
twelve years old, immediately stood up and walked around! They were overwhelmed and totally amazed. 43 Jesus gave them strict orders
not to tell anyone what had happened, and then he told them to give her something to eat.

Some men came, bringing to him a paralyzed man, carried by four of them. 4 Since they could not get him to Jesus because
of the crowd, they made an opening in the roof above Jesus by digging through it and then lowered the mat the man was
lying on. 5 When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralyzed man, Son, your sins are forgiven.

6 Now some teachers of the law were sitting there, thinking to themselves, 7 Why does this fellow talk like that? Hes
blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?

8 Immediately Jesus knew in his spirit that this was what they were thinking in their hearts, and he said to them, Why are
you thinking these things? 9 Which is easier: to say to this paralyzed man, Your sins are forgiven, or to say, Get up, take
your mat and walk? 10 But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins. So he said to the
man, 11 I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home. 12 He got up, took his mat and walked out in full view of them all.
This amazed everyone and they praised God, saying, We have never seen anything like this!

55
When it was almost time for the Jewish Passover, many went up from the country to Jerusalem for
their ceremonial cleansing before the Passover. 56 They kept looking for Jesus, and as they stood in
the temple courts they asked one another, What do you think? Isnt he coming to the festival at
all? 57 But the chief priests and the Pharisees had given orders that anyone who found out where
Jesus was should report it so that they might arrest him.

Jesus has said to do so many miracles that can be divided into four groups. Power over sickness e.g.
he healed Jariss daughter, death e.g. he brought Lazarus back to life. Demonic

e.g. he takes the devil out of Mary, nature e.g. he makes all the fish go to the top of the

10) Typical ATTITUDES towards Jesus by Pharisees, Zealots, Romans and Sadducees.

The Pharisees. This was the largest group numbering about 6000 in the first century CE. They
probably derived from a group who opposed to Greek rulers and refused to comprise the Torah by
not eating pork and by not working on the Sabbath. The name might come from the Hebrew word to
separate. They accepted all the books of the Hebrew Bible as scripture but also used an oral
tradition of commentary on the Torah with its own laws as important. They believe in the
resurrection of the body and the angels. They respected by the ordinary people and Jesus had
influential friends among them. He criticise the emphasis on the oral and attacked some of their
concern external purity when purity of the heart was what mattered

The Sadducees. They were much smaller but powerful group. They had landed gentry the wealthy
and had a great deal of influence in politics occupying many seats of the Sanhedrin the greater
council of the Jews. This had 70 members and was presided over the high priest. They excepted only
the Torah scripture and did not believe in the resurrection. They were concerned to keep quo and
maintain piece with Rome.

Zealots. This group was filled with the zeal of the Torah and believes that no foreign powers she all
the land that God had given to them. They were prepared to use terrorist actions and fight a war to

drive the Romans out. They might not have formed a distinct party the numbers of the Pharisees and
Sadducees could also be Zealots is they held these political ideas. A political interpretation of
Kingdom of God

Essenes. Josephus refers to this group as a third philosophy of the Jews. They lived on a monastic life
along with lay members who lived near the monasteries. They wrote commentaries on the
Scriptures and withdrew from the temple believing its administration to be corrupt. They expected
an imminent crisis and the war to drive the Romans out of their land. One of their communities was
probably at Qumran near the Dead Sea. The Dead Sea scrolls were found in caves. Stored in clay jars
in this area. There are ancient scrolls containing commentaries and portions of scripture. The scribes
also mentioned in the gospels. They were lawyers or rabbis who were trained in the Torah and
copied this out. Many would have. Belongs to the Pharisees. The atmosphere at the time of Jesus
was a electric many people were expecting a great leader to arise it would help them fight to the
Romans and win back their lands. Some thoughts that God would intervene and wonderful
supernatural things were going to happen. A moral/spiritual/Torah-focused. Understanding of what
was necessary to bring about the Kingdom of God

Jesus. He spoke often to bring the Kingdom of God and seemed to regard it not so much as a place
but people who lives where God is King. This opens us the idea of people in every nation and
nationality and at every period of history being part of this kingdom.

Judaism Today. Await the arrival of the Kingdom of God which will be brought by the Messiah.
Some believe that it will be focused on the land of Israel.

11) TRIALS in a sense four trials but two key trials before the Jewish Sanhedrin (a

religious trial) and Pilate (a Roman trial), the charges in these two key trials, and why

the first trial was not enough.

Yusef Mohammed Rem D
Yusef Mohammed Rem D

1. Place : Supreme court-the Sanhedrin

Judges : religious leaders presided over by the high priest
Charge : Blasphemy-being offensive to your religion
Verdict : Guilty
2. Place : Rome
Judge : Pilate
Charge : Revolutionary leader/king of the Jews (this is different to one because they
had to give the case to Pilate who was a Roman because the Sanhedrin couldnt give
the punishment of death. Also Pilate couldnt say someone was guilty because of
Blasphemy because the Romans didnt believe in this law so the Pharisees had to
make a different crime which Jesus was guilty of, and they said that he was a
revolutionary leader.
Verdict : Guilty
3. Place : Jerusalem
Judge : Herod
Outcome : Death, Crucifixion
4. Place : Pseudo
Real Judges : The crowd, because Pilate was pressured by the people to execute
Jesus. Also, the Jews got a choice to release a prisoner at Passover, but they chose to
release Barrabas

12) A) Alternative views to THE RESURRECTION (eg. body stolen) and counter responses.
B) The SIGNIFICANCE of the cross and resurrection to Christians.

c) Reasons for their belief in Jesus.

The swoon theory Jesus never really died, he came round in the cold tomb

But if he didnt die the how would he go to heaven

Conspiracy Theory Body Stolen By Disciples they just said hed come back to life

But many people saw Jesus after he died not just the disciples. I dont think that everyone
just said he came back to life, because the stories of everyone were quite the same

Hallucinations the eye witnesses wanted to see him so much that they thought they saw
him

But I dont think that several tens of people imagined exactly the same things.

Jesus Never Was On A Cross the Quran says that Judas was mistaken for Jesus and it was
he who was crucified: Jesus escaped

But It says that Judas led a revolt against the Romans
