Nursing Care Plan

Goal: New mom will demonstrate appropriate attachment behaviors in infant interactions and

expresses satisfaction with infant.

Nursing Diagnosis: Risk for impaired mother/ infant bonding related to postpartum treatment of

preeclampsia

Behavioral Objectives:

Mom will act interested in newborn and be an active participant in care of newborn
Mom will express any concerns, and fears to be addressed while on bed rest and

receiving mag sulfate


Mom will be anxious to see baby, and actively seek to bond with baby
Mom and family members will work together in care of newborn
Mom will actively participate and be willing to learn about infant care along with

identifying infant cues

Nursing Interventions:

1. Observe maternal-infant interactions


2. Encourage woman to express her anxiety, fears, and other feelings
3. Encourage woman to have as much contact with baby as possible
4. Encourage family participation in care of infant
5. Demonstrate infant care and explain infant behaviors

Evaluation:

1. Mom was very interested and active in newborn care, appropriately taking care of infant
2. Mom addressed concerns about getting out of bed and wanting to feel better so she can

focus on care of the newborn


3. Mom wanted baby in the room at all times and would ask questions about baby when in

nursery
4. Mom and patients mom along with her husband all worked together in feeding, dressing,

playing with and caring for the newborn


5. Mom did not have many questions about care for the newborn, however mom displayed

appropriate care and pointed out when baby was rooting. Showing increased signs of

attentiveness to baby
