1. GENERAL DESCRIPTION

This project consist to cover the engineering, design, manufacture, testing, supply,
installation and commissioning of 220 kV underground XLPE according Technical
Specification for 220 KV XLPE Cable System from Main Transformer to 220 KV GIS
Switchyard, 10083A-9-3PS-EZS0-00011, Rev. 1. Some modifications regarding drawing
10083A-09-ER-0000-00002 Rev. 0 are taken into account.

The purpose of this connection is to supply as required on the Material Requisition mainly 2
separate circuits of 220kV 1x1200 mm CU (minimal cross section required) XLPE cables, 6
XLPE/Air termination and 6 XLPE/gas terminations.

According the Technical Specifications, the earthing system will be a single point bonding,
which means to have sheath voltages limiters at one end.
Overhead connections from MT air bushing to HV Surge arrester and XLPE/Air Termination
is included.

2. MAIN PLANT CHARACTERISTICS

The proposed cables have been verified for the following main electrical, laying,
environmental and operating data, according the technical specifications.

2.1. Electrical Data

5. SHORT CIRCUIT CURRENT

The final temperature of a current carrying component (f), is calculated with the following
formula in accordance with IEC 60949 standards:

f i exp
I 2 t
K 2 S 2

Where:

f Final temperature of the current carrying component (C)

i Initial temperature of the current carrying component (C)

Reciprocal of temperature coefficient of resistance at 0C (K)

t Duration of short-circuit (s)

I Short-circuit current (A)

K Constant depending of the material of the current carrying component (As/mm)

S Geometrical cross-sectional area of the current carrying component (mm)

According to IEC 61443 standards Short-circuit temperature limits of electric cables with
rated voltages above 30 kV (Um = 36 kV), the assumed maximum permissible final
temperatures "f" are set to 250 C, 210 C, respectively for HV cable copper conductor and
the HV cable lead alloy sheath and 250 C for Cu wire screen and copper earthing cable
conductor (ECC), XLPE insulated and PVC sheathed.

Pre-existing steady-state temperature conditions among the cable components (conductor, lead
alloy sheath and ECC cable) are relevant to 1000 A rating current.

The calculations have been carried out for both the three-phase symmetrical and the single-
phase short-circuit currents.

As far as the single-phase fault is concerned, the short circuit current is taken by the
composite metallic screen in case of internal fault and it is assumed to be taken completely
from the ECC (300 mm size) in case of fault external to the cables.
