Camille Barlow
Ms. Gardner
English 10H/Period 4
29 November 2016
Hello, my name is Camille Barlow. I am a student writing to you, the next President of
the United States, to educate you about a petrifying pollution problem affecting the worldwide
daily lives of citizens. Pollution largely impacts all of the organisms in the United States, but we
can only blame ourselves. I have decided to reach out to you because of the terrifying impacts
caused by pollution worsening as the years go on without change. Throughout my life, I have
grown up with friends and family members coughing continuously and carrying inhalers. My
strong luck has helped me avoid becoming diagnosed with asthma thus far; however, I have
experienced the constant troubles of others from this ailment. Affecting all aquatic animals of the
United States, pollution is causing major ocean acidification. Pristine Seas, in her article Ocean
Acidification, emphasizes that, The introduction of massive amounts of CO2 leads to higher
acidity, mainly near the surface, which has been proven to inhibit shell growth in marine animals
and is suspected as a cause of reproductive disorders in some fish. This impact personally
affects me because of the strong love I have for animals, and witnessing this appalling effect
motivates me to educate others in order for there to be a change. Pollution, a human caused
problem, hurts all living organisms around the US that can only be fixed by the help of you, Mr.
President-elect.

There are many causes and effects of pollution. The Environment Protection Agency
acknowledges that, Although levels of particle pollution and ground-level ozone pollution are
substantially lower than in the past, levels are unhealthy in numerous areas of the country.
Where levels are disturbing and unhealthy, numerous citizens are faced with asthma attacks,
shortness of breath, and lung diseases. Some cases of extreme ozone levels increase chances in
hospitalizations, emergency room visits, and premature death. Do you want your US citizens to
suffer from these terrible impacts? Pollution is a circling shark, slowly eating away at the health
of the United States ecosystems. FF Conserve Energy declares that, The garbage dumped in the
ocean every year is roughly around 14 billion pounds, and more than 1 billion people worldwide
dont have access to safe drinking water, so 5000 people die every day as a result. This large
problem is completely solvable because we have created it, and we have the ability to recycle
more.
With this being said, I propose many ideas in hopes of change. We must send out
manageable amounts of time to use electrical appliances. We must gather ways to suggest
carpooling, public transportation, biking, and walking in an appealing way by showing the
benefits. We must flag and email cars that have not maintained their automobiles routine such as
changing the oil and filters, checking tire pressure, and checking wheel alignment. We must seal
the tops of household cleaners, workshop chemicals, and garden chemicals to prevent volatile
organic compounds from evaporating into the air. It may be tough, but together we can do it.
Together we can solve any problem, fight any crime, or change any issue; even the power of
Zeus will not be able to contain our strength. With all of this being listed, the next step must be
taken: find not what others are doing--find what you are doing.

The main problem regarding the numerous wonderful ideas that my community and I
want to take action on is the lack of effort put in by the citizens of the US. Citizens everywhere
claim the actions they make are quicker and easier, and they need to perform simpler acts during
a busy day. Examples of this are using plastic water bottles, taking multiple quick errands in the
car, and littering. Leaving a straightening iron, television, and lights on all day are all ignorant
actions that impact the worlds pollution. Educating these citizens would influence their daily
actions, and having them experience a healthy environment would cause them to keep it that
way, so we must help the world by showing them what keeps it healthy. We will not give up on
With your help, us United States citizens can now proceed to fix these problems. These
changes will end damaged lives and begin healthy ones. Will you let your fellow citizens and
yourself receive the consequences of this issue, Mr. President-elect, or will you aid in solving
