Projector, computer, and speakers
Handouts for each student
Chromebooks
History Textbook (p.129-132)
Background Information:
These French immersion students have started their American Revolution unit in history. I noticed they had
been struggling to translate from English to French, so we will be watching an English music video about The
Boston Tea Party where they will be getting their initial research for songs they will be creating in French. This
way they are working on their direct translation skills while learning a new study technique of turning
information into a song to help them prepare for future tests and/or projects.
Accommodations/Modifications:
Students will be able to use a variety of sources like the Chromebooks, history textbooks, and song twice as a
class to learn the information needed for their song lyrics.
Students will be working in small groups or partners where one student will volunteer to be the scribe.
Students will have the instructions written down, read by a peer, and explained by the teacher.
Learning Expectations:
A3.1 identify factors leading to some key events that occurred in and/or affected Canada between 1713 and
1800 and describe the historical significance of some of these events for different individuals, groups, and/or
communities
Learning Goals
By the end of this lesson, we will be able to demonstrate our knowledge of the Boston Tea Party through our
use of song lyrics.
By the end of this lesson, we will be able to design song lyrics that help us remember significant facts for a test
and/or project.
Minds On 10 minutes
1. Students will be shown Partys Going On by Schoolyardrap while I pass out handouts to each group.

2. Students will be shown the video again and asked to write down two things they learned from the video.

3. The students will be asked to share something they learned from the video.
Qu'est-ce que vous avez appris?

Action 28 minutes
1. I will get a volunteer from the class to read out the instructions and then I will explain them as well. I will
then ask if there are any other questions.

chanson de votre choix (Shake it off, Alors on danse, Closer, etc.)
Boston Tea Party.

2. Students will work together to write down four facts about the Boston Tea Party (using their facts from the
1st part of the sheet, the textbook, or Chromebooks) as a group or with a partner.

3. Students will pick a song. I will check in with students to look at their facts and song choices to help them
with anything that they need.

4. Students will use the tune of the song and their research to write song lyrics.

5. I will ask if anyone wants to present if a group is done.

Early finishers: get them to practice the song three times and then come present it for the class. Challenge them
to make it longer or add actions.

Assessment
For providing students with descriptive feedback on their worksheets once completed and observing how
well students are doing with translation in this assignment to see what supports they need for it in the future.

Consolidation 2 mins
1. We will talk about the usefulness of using songs to remember important facts for tests and projects.

Next Steps
Let students present their songs if they want to in a future class (maybe in an advisor period).
Check everyones karaoke sheets and look for different levels.
Provide feedback on karaoke sheets to each group.

How did the lesson go? (What worked and what didnt? What would you do differently in the future?)
