Replacing
Introduction

The danger of formulas and our capacity to become `religious'.


We are called and empowered `to live by the Spirit' (Gal 5). This is the ONLY way to
freedom. All else is man-centred and brings bondage and captivity.
Do not underestimate our desire for `methods'. We like to be in control.
Relationship and dependence is key in our daily walk with God.
Walking in freedom is an active and even aggressive lifestyle whereby we `fill up' on
truth in the mind and the heart and live out that truth through decisions of the will. In
this way we break the power of the lie and expose it for what it is - a deception, an
untruth that has no reality now we are in Christ. In that day their burden will be lifted
from your shoulders, their yoke from your neck; the yoke will be broken because you
have grown so fat. Isaiah 10:27

I. REPLACING

Demolishing strongholds is a process

A. Salvation has been given


Is being given
Will be given fully

Enemy jurisdiction has been destroyed


Is being destroyed
Will be destroyed fully

I have repented
I am repenting
I will no longer need to repent!

B. Repentance, divine transaction and freedom prayer (alone/with a team/corporately...) is only


brought to fulfillment or completion when we live in the Truth on a daily and consistent basis.

C. Freedom and maturity in Christ can be described as `The state of the soul when it lives, thinks,
sees, chooses and feels in harmony with God's character and Word of Truth'. The lies of the
enemy find access where we live, think, see, choose, feel in harmony with Satan's lies and
opinions.

Example: The man who didn't believe in the laws governing electricity!

D. Get fat to get free


FAT Christians are FREE Christians!

The Lord Almighty will lash them with a whip, as when he struck down Midian at the rock of
Oreb; and he will raise his staff over the waters, as he did in Egypt. In that day their burden will
be lifted from your shoulders, their yoke from your neck; the yoke will be broken because you
have grown so fat Isaiah 10:26, 27

2. HOW THE SOUL INTERNALISES TRUTH

The soul comprises of THE MIND


THE IMAGINATION
THE WILL
THE VOICE
THE EMOTIONS

Each aspect of the soul must embrace and be saturated in the truth.

A. The Mind

The primary area of Warfare!

1. Key Verses:

Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of
your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is - his good, pleasing and
perfect will. Romans 12:2

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make
her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to
himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and
blameless. Ephesians 5:25-27

The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits
and things taught by demons. 1 Timothy 4:1

You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father's desire. He was a
murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies,
he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. John 8:44

Jesus turned and said to Peter, `Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do
not have in mind the things of God, but the things of men. 'Matthew 16:23

But the seed on the good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word,
retain it, and by persevering, produce a crop. Luke 8:15

2. Key Question:
What truths define reality for you?

The only way to tell is to look at how you live. Whatever an individual agrees upon and establishes
through consent and constant use will describe reality for that person. E.g. Insignificance, self
sufficiency...

3. Breaking word curses:


Name the curses
Forgive the person
Receive forgiveness for believing the word curse and acting upon it
Renounce and shatter it with your authority in Christ
Rebuke the lying spirit behind it
Stand daily with God's liberating and powerful Word of TRUTH
Share it with another

4. Discerning the lies we believe


i) Humility
ii) Living in a community committed to Truth
iii) Listening to ourselves - Head thinking
- Heart thinking

Struggles reveal the lies if we dare to stop and reflect

5. Exercise

-Take a sheet of paper. Draw a line down the middle. On the left write one diseased thought
pattern/lie you are struggling with today. On the right write out the Truth from God's word!
-Repent of believing the lie
-Renounce it, rebuke the enemy and thank God for the Truth and that it will be fulfilled in your life.
Meditate on the truth.

B. The Imagination

The imagination and the heart are profoundly connected. The heart speaks into the
imagination in pictorial form (dreams, daydreams, fantasy, nightmares, imagery).
This `picture language' is truth in symbolic form.

The imagination is a God given faculty and needs cleansing and redeeming.

The Nature of Parables and story language: Jesus plugs into the imagination to
minister truth to the heart and mind.

Many people suffer from an imagination almost devoid of godly, wholesome


and beautiful imagery.

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right,


whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable - if anything is
excellent or praiseworthy- think about such things. Philippians 4:8

Exercise

- Take the diseased thought written out before.


- Ask God for holy imagery to express the Truth in pictorial form.
- Ponder on the image thanking Him for its truth and power in your life / meditate.

C. The Will

Your will is the God given faculty to make choices and to direct your life in obedience to God

This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death,
blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may
love the Lord your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the Lord is your life, and he will
give you many years in the land he swore to give to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
Deuteronomy 30:19-20

If anyone chooses to do God's will, he will find out whether my teaching comes from God or
whether I speak on my own. John 7:17

The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever.
1 John 2:17

Our wills need to be powerful and strong but submitted to and in line with His great and perfect
Will.

This is at the heart of the Lord's prayer `Thy will be done'

Jesus fulfils this most perfectly m the agony of Gethsemane

When our wills operate m harmony with His will, divine grace pours into us and we grow and
mature

Engaging the will requires moral effort and determination

Often careful thought beforehand is needed

Active confrontation with `Fear'

Living in the `opposite spirit' is to freedom what:


Exercise is to fitness!
Painting is to pictures!
Dance is to ballet!
Kneading is to bread!

Exercise
How has your old mindset affected your behaviour?
What does the `opposite spirit' look like in your life?

D. The Voice

The power of the word spoken in faith

E.g. Abram Abraham

Simon Peter the rock

As is it written: `I have made you a father of many nations.' He is our father in the sight of God,
in whom he believed - the God who gives life to the dead and calls things that are not as though
they were. Romans 4:17

We must collaborate with God and declare His truth about us by faith, out loud and with
conviction and determination.

Exercise

Begin to declare aloud Gods truth about you! Aloud with boldness and conviction.

E. The Emotions

Our emotions are a God given capacity to feel and empathise with Him, with others and for
ourselves.

We never trust our emotions over God's Word.

We confess our emotions and acknowledge them to God - pouring out our soul to Him.

We do not allow our emotions to define us or define reality to us.

e.g. Because I feel rejected does not mean I am rejected - God will never reject me and
his acceptance and abiding presence with me is the rock on which I stand.

We wait for our emotions to come into line as we stand on truth. Here lies a great battle in a
culture driven by the emotions and the pursuit of experience.

e.g. Jesus in Gethsemane is emotionally distraught and disturbed but he stands in truth
and by the time the soldiers arrive, he is at peace, secure and ready. His emotions have
come back in line with God's peace.

F. The place of the church community

Preaching and teaching that challenges specific strongholds and models righteous
living. (`Binding and loosing' prayer is so powerful when leaders use their authority to
bless and protect the people).
Pastoral care that listens, encourages and leads to repentance and determined
obedience.
The power of testimony.
Standing with those who are slow to change.
Resisting the
- Quick fix mindset
(Erosion of responsibility, magical thinking, self-centred spirituality,
resistance of repentance, `when...then' thinking, ministry addiction)

- Victim mindset
(Self-pity, despair, condemnation, comforting spirits, helplessness, erosion
of responsibility, blame...)

G. Expect internal resistance!

The flesh hates to die, but die it must. You cannot make peace with the sinful nature, it
must be crucified daily.
The key is living according to the Spirit whose grace and anointing enables you to
transcend and defeat the flesh.
Victory is already yours and is waiting for you to embrace it based on Truth in your
innermost being!

H. What if I sin again?

Youve had prayer ministry. Youve dealt with roots and broken lies over your life. Youve
repented of a deep, past injustice. All of this was energising sin in your own life. What happens
when I go and sin again?

1. Repent of that sin again do the 5 Rs.


2. Stand on the truth that replaced the root lie. Declare that the injustice is forgiven etc...
3. Allow God to show you the ugliness of the sin but refuse condemnation.
4. Ask God for greater revelation of what it looks like when all the residue of this stronghold is
gone.
5. Ask God if there is anything else He wants to deal with?
6. Renew your mind, declare the truth.
