To the Portfolio Committee for Candice Germany:

I have been able to work with Candice in a variety of settings in and out of the classroom
and come to understand that she operates with a critical hope lens. Please accept this letter as my
promise of Candice Germany as a higher education professional. Her graduate work at Loyola
University Chicago as well as her experience at multiple Chicagoland institutions have prepared
her to be an exceptional higher educational professional.

In her work at Northwestern University as the Graduate Assistant for Recreation Services
and Programming in the Norris University Center, Candice is responsible for numerous student
staff members for the Norris Game Room. The thing that I admire the most about her work with
student staff is her requirement of their accountability. By having clear expectations for them she
is helping them to develop as professionals and they are gaining valuable life skills. Her passion
for unions as a key student space on campus shines through in her work as well. She truly
believes in the necessity of student unions on every campus and strives every day to make the
Norris University Center a hub for student growth and learning.

I was fortunate enough to have all of my first semester classes with Candice where I got
to know her better as an individual and a professional. This is where I saw her unique ability to
view her work through a critical hope lens. She is never misguided about a situation because she
takes the time address systems at play by having meaningful dialogue and employing empathy.
She is the first to point out the reality of a situation because she recognizes the power in doing
that rather than ignoring it. She takes into account all perspectives and moves forward with the
understanding that there might be negative outcome but holds onto hope that in the end justice
will prevail. She is committed to social justice and it shows in every aspect of her work.

Candice throws herself fully into her work and her determination to do right by her
students and those around her is extraordinary. Her capacity to multitask is compounded by her
high level of organization that allows her to complete things in a timely and efficient manner.
Besides all of her amazing qualities as a professional, Candice is a person that I have been
privileged to be able to get to know over the course of this program. Her character and caring
personality will carry her very far in this field and bring a positive energy to whatever institution
is lucky enough to have her.
