current fashion utilises too much synthetic and non-sustainable fibres. There needed to be a change
so they researched viable fabric alternatives until they unearthed the ideal solution.
Both Mace (a vegan), and Revi are passionate advocates for ethical and fair trade practises and
equally avid about protecting our fragile environment. And so Down to Earth, our vision for ethical
fashion was born.
Our essential ingredients to making up the formula for our Down to Earth brand is:
We proudly manufacture using certified organic bamboo with reactive dyes, which are highly
coloured organic substances.
Our Linen blend contains 55% natural linen blended with a semi-natural viscose softening the
material and allowing it to drape beautifully.
We are currently investigating using OXO biodegradable plastic for our individual plastic garment
bags. Being biodegradable will further reduce our environmental footprint.
We purchase only re-purposed boxes for forwarding large quantities of garments to our stockists
and distributors. Recycling saves trees and reduces our impact on our precious environment.
2) Ethical Manufacturing
Down to Earth uses the ETI (Ethical Trading Initiative) as our guiding principle in ensuring we
manufacture ethically. Key factors include ensuring that:
Down to Earth personally travels to our factory on a quarterly basis to ensure these principles are
strictly abided by. Amongst other things, we review fire regulations, ensure the workplace is well lit
and well ventilated, and that regular breaks are afforded to the workers.
We now know many of the workers by name and enjoy discussing not only their work but learning
more about them and their family life during each visit.
3) Giving Back
Down to Earth strongly believes that manufacturing in a third-world country such as Thailand, not
only assists in improving the quality of life of our workers, but gives us the opportunity to give back
to their community. For us, taking it that one step further is a key part of our company values. Down
to Earth has dedicated a portion of our profits to the children at Mercy Centre Australia in Bangkok,
Thailand. This is a network of 23 pre-schools (caring for children ages 2 to 6) in slums all over
Bangkok. An estimated 55,000 children have graduated from these centres. Besides donating funds,
we sponsor-a-child, a young boy named Guy. A highlight of our quarterly visits to Bangkok is
spending time at the centre and visiting Guy.
Our heartfelt thanks to you, our customers, for supporting Down to Earth and helping us to make
our world a better and more sustainable place for all of us to live! Together we show that fashion
can be beautiful to wear and can do beautiful things for our world and the people in it too.
