Nemours Childrens Hospital (NCH) is a state-of-
the-art facility in Orlando, Florida. The centerpiece
of a forested, 60-acre, healthcare campus, the 95-bed,
630,000-square-feet. NCH has been described as a

most sophisticated diagnostic, treatment, and research

young patients.
To get the 850 staff members at the new hospital up to
speed quickly, Nemours relied on Saba Learning to deliver
and manage everything from employee orientations and
nurse training to in-depth instruction in its innovative
NemoursOne electronic medical records (EMR) system.
Between July and October, more than 850 people
completed nearly 16,000 web-based or instructor-led
classes, said Heather Kelley, supervisor, instructional
designers, Nemours. Saba Learning helped us streamline
the onboarding process and the delivery of essential
training at the new hospital in a very short time frame.
By any measure, the learning provided at the new
hospital has been well received. Using Sabas built-in
class evaluation functionality, Nemours found that nearly
96% of respondents were satisfied with the training they
had received. In addition, a team from the Joint Commission
on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations that audited
the hospital right after its opening awarded a gold seal of
approval, with one surveyor commenting, Its delightful to

Elevating Care Through Its EMR
The NemoursOne EMR solution instantly puts patient
information into the hands of all caregivers who need it
including doctors, nurses, residents, and other staffers.
While the solution that Nemours has developed is user-
friendly, since 2008 Saba has been instrumental in
helping to provide training to enable staff members to
optimize its use.
The EMR is at the heart of everything we do here, and
no one receives access without proper training, Kelley
commented. Saba Learning provides both web-based
and in-classroom training on NemoursOne, depending
on what an individuals function is.
In 2012, Kelley and the Nemours Learning Services
team offered 72 role-specific EMR curricula. Among the
modules were introductory training for new hires on the
NemoursOne system, numerous role-specific courses,
training for staff in newly created departments, and
shoulder-to-shoulder support sessions for new residents
and attending physicians.
From Social Media to Service Excellence
Nemours adheres to a federated approach to learning
meaning that business and clinical units are directly
responsible for ensuring that training meets their goals
and expectations. The Nemours Learning Services group
supports these efforts, and in 2012, it supplied nearly
650 web-based, instructor-led, or blended courses
through its centralized learning hub to 7,600 people,
with a total of more than 73,000 completions.

guidelines for appropriate use of social media, cultural
competence education, and a wide variety of courses
designed to maintain Nemours sterling reputation in
