To whom it may concern:

Brandie Kline is a Michigan State University graduate who completed a student

teaching internship at Endeavor Elementary School in Kentwood Public Schools. I
worked with Brandie in the fall of 2016 during her graduate literacy class, TE 802
Reflection and Inquiry in Teaching Practice I. As part of Michigan State Universitys
teacher preparation program, teacher candidates are required to complete a post-
graduate yearlong internship as well as continue professional development through
graduate coursework in core content areas.

In addition to working with Brandie in the fall of 2016 I had the opportunity to observe
her teaching a reading lesson in March of 2017. My letter of recommendation is,
therefore, based on my work with Brandie as her graduate instructor and my
observations of her teaching.

My observations noted that Brandies work was thorough and based on student needs.
During the semester she worked with her mentor teacher and assessed her students,
developed a literacy plan for a small group, and worked with that small group to support
their learning. Brandie also wrote a 10-day personal narrative writing unit, and
completed an analysis of student work using her writing unit data. I visited Brandies
classroom while she taught her writing unit. Brandie asked questions and was eager for
feedback.

I again observed Brandie in March of 2017. She invited me into her classroom while she
taught a reading lesson. When I arrived, Brandie was engaged with a small group of
learners. Yet, others in the classroom were also actively reading in small groups, talking
about their reading, and working to complete an assignment document. It was clear her
College of students knew Brandies expectations and were following directions. When the class
Education later went to their special I talked with Brandie about her teaching. She welcomed
feedback and talked through a recent unit of study, asking questions and positing ideas.
Teacher Education Brandie consistently critiqued her work, looking back over lessons and making plans for
the next time she teaches this type of reading unit. Brandie was especially focused on

It was clear during both of my visits that Brandies students respected her by listening to

student who took her work seriously and made efforts to connect her coursework to
student learning. It is with this in mind that I recommend, without reservation, Brandie
Kline for a teaching position at your school. I look forward to talking with you should
you have questions.
