Applications

BJ Sandstone Acid is a stimulation treatment for sandstone reservoirs. These reservoirs are generally composed
of quartz particles with various clay materials, including feldspars, carbonates and others. Conventional
hydrofluoric acid (HF), and most commercial retarded acids, spend very quicklysometimes in secondson
highly soluble clay materials, which limits the penetration of HF acid, the depth of damage removal and
anticipated production increases. BJ Sandstone Acid solutions, which contain a special organic acid, produce a
delayed reaction on clay minerals, significantly slowing the HF acid reaction rate. This minimizes unconsolidation
of the formation in the wellbore area by spreading the acid reaction over a larger area. Result: Deeper damage
removal and a higher production increase over conventional, retarded HF acidizing methods.

Features

Better Acidizing Control

Retards the reaction and solubility of clays.
Enhanced Reaction Rates With Quartz
Deeper penetration of HF acid reduces formation unconsolidation.
Reduced Precipitation Problems
Delays and minimizes damaging precipitation of various siliceous and aluminum complexes.
Leaves Formation Water-Wet
Enhances oil or gas production rates.

Benefits

Actually stimulates sandstone reservoirs, with excellent results.

Higher production from deeper matrix penetration.
Long-term production enhancement through prevention of scale deposition.
Less corrosive than similiar acids.

Safety Precautions

Wear protective clothing, gloves and eye protection. Should contact occur, wash affected areas with large
quantities of water. Do not expose to open flames, intense heat or areas where sparking may occur.

Technical Data

Cumulative effect on 14-in. (35.6 cm) of core performed with standard preflush and overflush.

Note individual core section values with BJ Sandstone Acid on two 6-in. (15.2 cm) cores and a third 2-in.
(5.0 cm) core. These are laboratory figures. Testing showed as much as a four times increase in penetration
depth over conventional acidizing methods.
