This variant for GWT is designed to allow the player to try different strategies while attempting to reach the

highest score possible. It makes use of a simple dummy player (named Lizzie1) that only acts as a substep at
the end of each Kansas City phase taken by the real player. The dummy accumulates no points and does not
build a deck, nor do they hire workers, etc.

Setup
Setup for a two player game with the following exceptions:
Setup Lizzies player sheet (sans discs), train, buildings, and deck as normal.
Lizzie does not need discs or cattleman.
Do not give Lizzie a starting objective or money.
You are the first player and therefore receive $6.

Zones
The concept of zones is introduced to better clarify where Lizzie places buildings and how hazards are cleared
during subphase six. If neutral tiles were setup randomly, use the indicators marked on the board to designate
zone locations: zones will always be as below and will not change based on a neutral location setup.
Flood Zone: the five locations between neutral spaces A and B.
Drought Zone: the four locations between neutral spaces B and C.
American Indian Zone: the five locations between neutral spaces C and E.
Fill the location immediately preceding neutral space D first.
Rockslide Zone: the five locations between neutral spaces E and G.

Gameplay
Take all of your turns in a row. Lizzie does not take turns like a normal player.
If you pass a location with a green or black hand, pay the bank like normal.
If you land on a location with a green or black hand, the fee is instead placed on Lizzies player sheet.
If you do not have the money, pay for the fee from the bank. You must pay the fee if possible and, if
not, it must be paid, in full, from the bank.
If at any point the money on Lizzies player sheet equals $10, you may no longer stop on hazards or Lizzies
buildings. You do not pay to pass them, like in a normal game, but you may only visit your own buildings or go
straight to Kansas City. Once you reach Kansas City, return all money on Lizzies player sheet to the bank.

Kansas City Subphase 6

When you reach Kansas City, perform all steps like normal. When you have completed subphase five, perform
subphase six, as outlined below, before refilling the foresight spaces.
1. Reveal the top card of Lizzies deck. Place it faceup on her player sheet.
2. Clear a column of workers
a. If the revealed card is an odd number, clear the left column of the job market starting with the
row above the job market token.

1
Lizzie is named for Elizabeth Ellen Johnson Williams, a schoolteacher, cattle dealer, and investor who lived in Texas in
the mid to late 19th century. Lizzie registered her own cattle brand and personally accompanied her cattle to market
along the Chisholm Trail on several occasions. She is the Texas Cattle Queen.
b. If the revealed card is an even number, clear the right column of the job market as above.
3. Randomly remove from the market a number of cattle cards based on the type of card revealed. These
cards are immediately shuffled into Lizzies deck.
a. If its a starter cattle card, add one market card to Lizzies deck.
b. If its a market cattle card, add two market cards to Lizzies deck.
4. Reveal the top card of Lizzies deck. Place it next to the first card on her player sheet.
5. Place the lowest numbered building w/a fee (green and/or black hands) from Lizzies supply using the
guide below based on the color of the second revealed card. Place in empty location furthest along the
path in that zone; fill sites without local action bonuses before sites with bonuses; if the zone is full,
move to the next zone along the path. If Lizzie has no remaining buildings that charge a fee, she will
not not place anymore buildings; you may skip this step.
a. White/Blue: Flood zone
b. Gray/Yellow: Drought zone
c. Green/Brown: American Indian zone
d. Black/Red: Rockslide zone
e. Purple: do not add a building this round.
6. Remove all hazard or American Indian tiles from the zone corresponding to the color of the second
revealed card (see step 5 above).
7. Add up the value of the two revealed cards from Lizzies deck. Advance her train that many spaces
along the railroad using the normal rules. Lizzie does not divert into stations but if her movement takes
her past a station with a station master tile, it is removed the from the game. (Ex: If Lizzies move would
take her from spot 4 to spot 5, she would remove the first station master tile without entering the
station)
8. Move both revealed cards to Lizzies discard pile.
9. Place the remaining three tiles from the foresight spaces in their corresponding areas.
10. Refill all six foresight spaces and move your cattleman to the start of the trail.

You may now resume your turn as normal.

Game End
The end game trigger is the same as in a normal game: when the job market token moves along the red arrow,
the game is over. In this case, it means either you pushed it over the mark or Lizzie did. Either way, the game
has ended and you receive no more turns. Tally up your score and see how well you did!
