Reflection 4

Lifes Deal: Deck of Card

This studio asked artists to create thoughts and symbols about

risks, challenges, and achievements in life. The artists will make a

collaged playing card that will represent what life has thrown their way.

The artist will be able to show how they deal with lifes challenges. I

started thinking about some achievements I have had in my life. My

life has been focused around gymnastics my whole life. From growing

up in gymnastics to teaching it, it has been my passion. I think about

all of girls I have helped become strong, confident young girls and

teens, and one-day strong women. I want to recognize the positive and

constructive criticism I have given and received in my life and in

others. Positivity is the best way to create confidence and an easier

lifestyle. In my card, I am going to choose positive words and images

that every young woman should hear. I am going to choose the Queen

of Hearts because every woman should be strong and confident like a

Queen, but also have a loving heart towards all.

I have not yet chosen images or media that I will use, but what I

will use will be empowering. Confident words, strong messages, and

pictures of women succeeding will be in my card. This studio was

different from the others. I usually do not know what or how my art will

turn out until I play with the materials we have. This studio I thought

about my message before hand and what I wanted to portray in my

card first. I am excited to see how my card turns out and cannot wait

for the outcome.

For elementary school children, I probably would not create a

card about lifes risks. Instead, I may have children make a card about

an animal, rock, or tree in science depending on what the topic is or

creating a card of a person in history. Relating a card to a subject might

work in an elementary classroom. I hope to spark interest in students

using art and creativity combined learning.
