Standard 3 Executive Leadership

Striving for continuous academic improvement on our campus is vital to the growth of students
and teachers. I have played a valuable role not only on my team, but of our campus by going
over student data on a regular basis. Constantly reflecting on teaching practices and going over
objectives that students are low performing in has aided our campus in improving common
assessment scores as well as curriculum based assessments developed by the district office. I
understand that there are various strategies that can be used to improve student understanding of
the curriculum taught thus improving student academic scores. If a strategy fails, then I reflect
on what it is Ive done or havent done and try another tactic to benefit my students. I know that
if I get discouraged, then my students and team mates become discouraged. It is important for
me to strive to inspire and encourage my team and my students. I try to lead with the motto
Winners never quit, and quitters never win.

In helping to facilitate the district professional development Scavenger Hunt, I went from
room to room clarifying any questions team members had regarding the process and materials
needed to complete the task. Team members had to create a power point that showed how they
incorporated student group work in their curriculum, how they taught to the various learning
styles of their students, and how they aligned their TEKS with the grade above and below their
own. There was some confusion on how to access Lead4ward to view examples of power points
that I helped clarify. I checked to see if there were materials that anyone needed or any other
assistance I could provide. Since this was a professional development mandated by the district
office, making sure our campus did a good job was very important and satisfying.

I attended one of the District Site-Based Committee meeting. After the committee was
welcomed by the superintendent and one of the associate superintendents, the minutes from the
previous month were reviewed and approved. This was a very informative meeting. The new
book adoption for algebra was also brought up and the ethical practices and procedures involved
in making sure teachers dont speak to publishing representatives directly or accept anything
from them so that it doesnt appear as though youve been bribed to vote for their product. I
believe that most educators adhere to the educators code of ethics, this was a valuable reminder.
