Synopsis : This course develops students ability to critically evaluate, synthesise and
integrate knowledge gained from a variety of sources related to the construction
development process. It provides them with an opportunity to develop practical
capability of applying the concepts and practices of construction project
management in a simulated real life project-based scenario. The problems within
the case study material will address issues related to the management of
construction clients and other project stakeholders and the planning, co-
coordination and management of a project from its design stage throughout to
production stage. The students will need to formulate responses to the practical
problems posed in the context of the overarching construction project
constraints of time, cost, quality sustainability, health and safety management.
They are required to examine the options available for the organisation, planning
and management of the design and construction processes of a building project.
The use of group work in this course reflects the industry emphasis on team
working across professional disciplines. A final report on the case study made is
required to be submitted for evaluation and assessment.

TEACHING METHODOLOGY
Short lectures are used at junctures throughout the project as a mean for tutors to impart the project
brief and stages of work to students. Periodic tutorial sessions reinforce project brief and are
conducted by tutor(s) with groups of five to six students at a time. These sessions also serve as a
platform for students to present their work to tutor(s) upon the conclusion of each of the project
phases. The pedagogical philosophy for this subject is student centred learning. For most part,
students are required to use a self- study approach by using their own initiative to gain knowledge
and discover ways in which to apply it to their project. The project tutors act mainly as mentors,
facilitators, and assessors.
