Plastic Sheet Piling Underpins Flood

Enbankment
Geoflex Case Study
THE PROJECT: GUNNESS FLOOD ALLEVIATION SCHEME
As part of the Environment Agencys ongoing Humber Flood Risk Management Strategy, the section of em-
bankment at Gunness Wharf was identified that the embankment had a low factor of safety against failure The
failure of the embankment could lead to flooding of agricultural land and residential properties. A number of
solutions were identified and assessed for their suitability, environmental impact and cost.

Cofra UK were employed to install 3.6km of Geoflex sheet piling to prevent the occurrence of slip plane fail-
ures along the landward and riverward sides of the Gunness flood embankment. This involved the installation
of 2.5m long plastic sheet piles, driven to just below the surface of the embankment so the piles were hidden
upon reinstatement.

The 19 week contract was finished 5 weeks

ahead of programme and within budget.
