FINAL PORTFOLIO REFLECTION 2

Final Portfolio reflection.

In the class Instructional Alignment 2 I have learned to write unit plan, lesson plans

including its features. I have also learned how to be the best and effective teacher by reading

useful article like What makes effective teachers effective. I have also read the books called

Steeping stone, Brophy teaching, Act of Teaching, and Entry Points and these books

were very helpful to me to write lesson plan and help me to know how the effective teacher

should be. In this paper, I will be describing about my two areas of growth and one area of

weakness of unit plan.

One of my area of strengths of my unit plan is mapping assessment and objectives.

According to my teachers feedback and my personal experience of mapping assessment and

objectives is my strength of my unit plan. In my last teaching practicum, I did mapping

assessment and objectives but this time, while making unit plan I improved it. I learned it from

my professor and reading the articles and books. Moreover, I improved this skill by practicing,

asking feedback from my teacher, friends, and from the internet.

Another strength of my unit plan is a writing guiding question. I think this is a strength

because these questions are useful to engage students in the lesson and it help helps to enhance

students critical thinking. Teaching without guiding question does not mean wrong teaching, but

asking question to test or to know students initial ideas about the lesson is effective and more

meaningful. When I taught science/ecosystem lesson in my last teaching practicum, I had many

guiding questions like; what is food chain? What is producers? What is photosynthesis? What is

consumers? What is decomposers? I could teach without these questions but these questions

were very helpful for both teacher (me) and students because these questions engage students

and enables them to think critically. All by it means is, I can make effective guiding questions

that I am describing here in this reflection as my strength of making unit plan.

In other hands, I have some difficulties to make lesson plan or to write lesson plans.

Closing activity is one of my weakness of writing lesson plan. I do not say I am better in other

areas of writing unit plan and writing lesson plans but closing activities were the most

challenging part of my last teaching practicum. I think I did good opening (when I taught

math/measurement, I did show the picture of basket pole and ask who likes to play basketball,

and then I ask them how can we convert the length of the pole meter to centimeter) but I fail to

conclude the lesson with closing activity. h

To improve my weakness of writing closing activity, I have planned something like this,

for example; - if I teach science/ecosystem, I will have students write down two sentences

response. I mean, I will ask my future students to take out a slip of a paper and ask them to write

what they understand in two sentences. I will do this closing activity because I believe that the

students will learn and remember the idea of the lesson for the long time.

In conclusion, this class have been very useful to me to become effective teacher. This

class has been supporting me to write unit plan, lesson plan, and helped me how to deliver the

lesson. This class helped me to see myself and it reminds me to be effective teacher including

godly character. What I mean by godly character is, I as a teacher should have the quality of a

true Christian. Pure Christians are good Christians because they know follow and do the what is

true. God is love and people are His sons and daughters. So, I as a Christian teacher should love

and care for the students but not punishing badly when they fail to do their homework. But I will

show mercy and kindly tell them to do their job.
