Dear Reader,
I am writing to recommend Julie Kaspari for a position in your school. Julie will complete her degree in art
education at Colorado State University this spring, 2017 and graduate with a Bachelor of Arts with a
concentration in art education and a studio emphasis in painting. Julies art education coursework includes
studies in standards-based art curriculum development; integration of literacy and numeracy into the art
curriculum; assessment; studio practice, art history, and criticism; classroom management; art room design,
budgeting and ordering supplies; integration of classroom technology; and accommodations/differentiation in
art. Studio coursework in design, painting, drawing, metalsmithing, printmaking, sculpture, photography,
pottery, and a comprehensive series of world art history courses complete Julies art coursework. She is well-
prepared in her content area.

The art education/education program is practice-intensive with most of the coursework completed in the field.
Practicum and service-learning experiences are an essential component of each class. These teaching
opportunities allowed Julie to teach elementary, middle, high school and special needs students, and these
experiences are documented in her portfolio.

Having had the privilege of supervising Julie Kaspari for the past two months as a student teacher has provided
me with the opportunity to observe her competency and commitment in a variety of situations. She is
knowledgeable, compassionate, and exhibits an attitude and work ethic that goes above and beyond
expectations.

Julie believes that all students can learn and this is evidenced in the thoughtful, standards-based lessons she
designs. During her time student teaching at the elementary level, Julies classes included students differing
needs. The ability and learning style of these students, and all students, was always considered in her daily
planning. Her accommodations were creative and still maintained the integrity of the learning objectives of the
project. Additionally, Julie is reflective about teaching, a fundamental element of growth and professional
development.

Julie creates a classroom environment where students feel comfortable to express themselves and take risks, an
essential part of an art classroom. She recognizes the importance of the process of creation and student
originality and choice. Julie provides ongoing feedback as well as directing students in discussion to analyze
and critique their work and the work of their peers in a thoughtful, productive manner. As a result, students
grow in their problem solving and creative-thinking abilities.

As one of the main components of 21st century learning, incorporating technology into all classes is a
requirement that cannot be overlooked. Julies use of technology in her lessons shows that she is fluent in her
understanding of the potential for technology in an art curriculum. She is able to learn new programs quickly
and bring this new knowledge immediately into her classes.

During her elementary placement, Julie split her time between two different schools, challenging even for
veteran teachers. She was able to work with ease as a part of both teams. She is able to recognize the individual
strengths and culture of each school and effectively communicates her thoughts and beliefs all with students
needs in mind.

I believe Julie is a strong teacher who will only continue to grow and learn. She will be a great addition to the
staff, students, and art program of any school. I highly recommend Julie Kaspari for a teaching position.

Please contact me with any further questions.

Sincerely,
