I hope everyone had a great Fourth of July even though this newsletter is a little late I still want to say that I wish
everyone a safe month.
Things have been going great here at Rancho Cucamonga PT Cruiser Cruisin' club these past few days. Our
recent cruises have taken us to several places that we have enjoyed very much and hopefully we can continue to keep
traveling as we do in a safe manner throughout the rest of the year.

VP Message

This is a PT Cruiser Cruisin Car Club. It is not a dating service, it is not a church, and it is not a financial institution. I have
had my fantasy about finding my life’s partner during one of these cruises, maybe a trusted confidant, or even a
generous millionaire. NOT. What I have found are fantastic people who just want to have fun while visiting different
places and testing new restaurants. Doing this takes a little money. I’ve made choices all my life about how I am going
to spend my time and resources. I am sure you do too! Here are some examples of the choices that I have had to
make. “Do I take the car it to the car wash or wash it myself?” Do I go to the movies, buy popcorn and soda or stay
home and save my money for the next cruise?” The choice is mine and mine alone. Needless to say, I’ve washed my
own car; I passed up going to the movies and set aside the money, enough to cover my own expenses for the next
cruise. I am neither frugal, nor extravagant, and not trying to squeeze on someone for money. I know that if ever I
need some help with my meal expense for the day, I could count on a member or two for help. If that ever happens, I
hope that I am discreet enough to discuss this privately ahead of time. If I ever need to ask for help, I hope I never
embarrass myself or others by doing it in a public forum. Having said this, maybe now I can go back to my favorite
fantasy about finding my life’s partner, a trusted confidant and experiencing life to its fullest. Please join us on our next
cruise and experience life on the road to our next destination.

Independence Day Remembrance

What does Independence Day mean to me? Freedom! I’ve been hosting foreign exchange students for almost 14 years
now. With the exception of one lovely female from Japan, they have all been male English Language Students from all
over the world. Most come from countries that have a democratic government, a few under a Monarch’s rule, while
others came from countries once ruled under communism. I’ve had students who have spoken no English when they
arrive and leave with a Bachelor’s Degree. Some have studied English since they were a child, while others with maybe
one or two years of English. I am so impressed with their desire to learn about our culture. All of these students love
the USA. Their parents must love America too; otherwise they would never have sent them here. Some English
Language Students have been as young as 10 years old and as old at 50.
I’ve gained a better perspective on how we are viewed by others in the world. It has been my experience that those that
come here from countries that we think of less favorably love us the most. I’ve had one young man from Syria tell me
about how Americans helped Europe during and after WWII, and how it affected his country and his opinion of us. A
teenager from Vietnam described that he could not play too far from home because there are still undetonated bombs
and land mines in the area. Several young men from South Korea have described their experience serving their country
in the military and how it is mandatory to serve. Most of the student’s parents pay for them to come here to learn
English, a few worked to earn the money, while others have scholarships provided by their government. Regardless of
how their education is funded, all take learning English seriously.
Truly, the world comes to me. When a student leaves my home, I hope and pray that his experience in the USA has
been a positive one. It is not unusual for us to share a tear or two when they depart. I think one of the most rewarding
experiences I have had is seeing two students from different countries become the best of friends. We truly belong to
one family and that is how it is in my home where there is freedom to welcome strangers from far away countries. This
is my way to bring peace and freedom into the world, one person at a time.
We will be celebrating Independence Day by participating in Riverside’s Country Village Parade. It is never too late to
join the club and coming along for the fun.

PT Cruiser Connection

Since joining this car club, I have developed friendships with both married and single members. I’ve even gotten to
know four generations from one family and two generations from another. My own family consists of four generations.
With the members of this car club, there are no age barriers. Some of the members are grandparents and we do not
hesitate to include our adult children, grandchildren and even our elderly parents on our cruising adventures. I’ve
hosted two cruises so far this year, the first was a BBQ in April and the second was a Poker Night in May. When I
expressed my desire to invite the club members to my home, I was sincere because I felt I was inviting friends to my
home. I’ve been in my home for over 30 years, raised my kids, and I consider it to be a very sacred place. There was no
question in my mind that the members would respect me, my home and my family. In return, I naturally would respect
them. On both occasions, the BBQ and Poker Night were filled with laughter, conversation, and overall positive
interaction.

For a get-to-gather to be successful there needed to be a degree of planning. Since we have never had a poker night
before, Alex, the club’s Founder, Ken, club’s President, and I needed to discuss how to bring our thoughts together into a
feasible plan. We are not Poker players with only a somewhat limited experience either as a child watching our parents
play, playing electronic poker on this web-site, or watching a poker tournament on TV once in awhile. The three of us
had some preconceived ideas about the game. In spite of our own ideas going into the game, we made it work. One
thing that I have to say is, we listened to each other and conceded when a better idea was placed on the table. Now, I
want you to know, that when we have our second Poker Night in July, we are going to be ready because practice makes
perfect. In preparation of our first poker night, Alex purchased playing cards, chips, and trays while I purchased a Poker
table. We’ve got what we needed to play, gained a little more Poker experience, and a strong desire to do this once
again.

There is always a lesson to be learned from every experience, including playing Poker. If you don’t have the money,
don’t play. If you have the money, be ready to lose it. And, if you win, be gracious about it. I know this Poker Night was
special because we were all winners because we have each other. We concluded the evening by taking photos of the
members, dividing what was left of a chocolate mousse covered cake, apple pie, and two varieties of ice cream. Even
after all this, we still could not part without gathering together, looking at our cars and talking about all the new things
that have been purchased and installed on several PT Cruiser Cars. Finally, with the exchanging of hugs, an evening of
playing poker ended. What a night!

AT OUR CARD GAME (PLAYING POKER WITH TWO DECKS) ONE OF US WAS ABLE TO GET A GOOD HAND AND WIN THE
BIGGEST POT ($) EVER. SOME OF US ARE JUST PLAIN LUCKY. THE PICTURE ON THE RIGHT SIDE (FROM LEFT TO RIGHT)IS
ALICIA, KEN, LAURA, ROBIN, TOMMY, & GLORIA. WE WENT TO EAT BEFORE THE GAME STARTED AND THE FOOD WAS
VERY DELICIOUS. NOT ONLY THAT WE JUMPED RIGHT INTO THE DESSERT MENU FOR A NICE TREAT.
