    The action or capability of understanding something.

    o In order for children to comprehend what they read the subject must be
    relatable. It is a good idea to choose books with a topic that your child
    has had previous experience with, and can easily relate to.

    o It is also a good idea to pick books with a problem and a solution. This will
    give you a chance for some very meaningful conversation when
    discussing the book with your child after reading.

    o Suggestions for great comprehension books to read at home with your


    child are as follows:

    1. The Little Red Hen


    2. The Three Little Pigs
    3. Goldilocks and the Three Bears

    Before, during, and after reading you should focus on the following:
    Star- Who are the main characters?
    Setting- Where does it take place?
    Problem- What is the problem?
    Solution- How did they fix the problem?
