LESSON PLAN
Objectives: Students will be able to make inferences based on artifacts
Skills: group work
Agenda:
- Do now
- Its in the garbage reading (10 minutes)
o Pass in papers down the rows
- Introduction to the artifacts activity:
o how do archaeologists do their job? What kinds of things do they use?
What is an artifact?
- We are going to pretend to be archaeologists today
- Give instructions for the activity
o Pass out the papers
o Tell them you assigned groups
o We are going to look at artifacts and make inferences What is an inference?
o As a group you have to discuss the artifacts in your bag and write down who
you think used them. What was their job? Then tell me which item made it
easiest for you to figure that out
o We will be timed with each set. You have 4 minutes per set and we will rotate
clockwise.
o Post the groups
o Move to groups I assign where they go so we can pass the sets around
clockwise. Group one starts with set one and then gets set 6. They end with set
2
- Tell them: write in the box that corresponds with the number on your bag. You are
not all going to start on number one. You wont go in numerical order.
