Dear KSU Greeks,

We hope that you are as excited as we are for Greek Week 2017! We are so
excited to bring you

BACK TO THE 90S!


With all the events occurring this year throughout Greek Week, there is a lot
of information that is going to be presented to you, as an elected chair, to refer to
your chapters. In this packet you will find all the information you will need to have
a successful Greek Week. If you have any questions or concerns that are not
addressed here, please do not hesitate to contact anyone on the Greek
Programming Board.

We have a great new resource to present to you this year! For score updates,
team info, the complete packet, and more, go to ksugreekweek.weebly.com. We
are excited to streamline communication for Greek Week using this website, and
we hope you will utilize it!

Finally, wed like to remind you to only send one liaison to all future
meetings, and to keep this liaison consistent for communication purposes. If you
have any questions or concerns about this, please reach out to someone on the
board or FSL Staff.

Good luck to you and your teams, and remember Greek Week is about
having fun while working to contribute to our Community!

General Rules
**The following rules are general rules that apply to ALL Greek Week events (formal or
informal):

1. All participants/contestants in Greek Week competitions must be active undergraduate


members on a roster for a fraternity/sorority that is in good standing (i.e., no alumni, no early
alumni)

2. Most events will be rain or shine. The decision to cancel or relocate an event will be made by
the Department of Fraternity and Sorority Life Staff. In the event of a change to the
scheduled events, Greek Week Liaisons will be notified, as well as information posted on
social media outlets.

3. All participants/contestants/attendees or other involved parties are to refrain from alcohol


and/or illegal substance use during any and all Greek Week events.

4. All participants/contestants/attendees or other involved parties are not to attend any and all
Greek Week events under the influence of alcohol and/or illegal substances.

5. All participants/contestants/attendees or other involved parties are to refrain from all


derogatory or damaging remarks and/or behavior towards any other
participants/contestants/attendees prior, during, after, and/or between Greek Week events.

6. Any TEAM (not chapter) that fails to participate in any specific Greek Week event will not
receive any points for that event (if possible).

7. Participants in the following events must sign a liability release waiver (Appendix A) before
participating (Dance Competition, Tug-of-War, Relay Race, Chariot Race, Human Pyramid,
Food Eating Competition, Ultimate Capture the Flag)

8. Ties for any event will be settled using the tie breaker that is identified under each events
rules section.

9. Enforcement of any and all rules is to be handled by the officers on the Greek Programming
Board and/or full time staff from the Department of Fraternity and Sorority Life with all final
decisions residing with the GPB Advisor.

10. All sanctions for rule violations (general or specific) will be handled by the GPB Advisor or
another full time staff member from the Department of Fraternity and Sorority Life.

**The Department of Fraternity & Sorority Life Staff/GPB Advisor reserves the right to amend
these rules as needed to accommodate extenuating circumstances and ensure the integrity of the
competition.

Event Name: Teamwork

Description: A few goals of Greek Week is to encourage relationships, cooperation, and


participation among all chapters. The aim of the teamwork event is to recognize teams that
incorporate all of their member chapters into Greek Week Activities.

Rules:

Participation is defined as having completed at least one of the following: (1) competing
(not a spectator) in any of the Greek Olympics games, (2) participating in the dance/skit
competitions, (3) taking part in the All-Greek Photo, (4) participating in team trivia or the
case study, (5) participating in capture the flag, (6) or the food eating contest.
Once a member from a chapter has participated in one of the methods outlined above,
that chapter is counted as having participated with their team for Greek Week. For
example, if a member of XYZ sorority is a member of the tug-of-war team, the entire
XYZ sorority is counted as having participated, even if they do not attend any other
Greek Week events.

Explanation of Points: Points will be awarded based on the number of chapters that participate
on each team per the method described above. The more chapters that participate on a team, the
more points they will receive.

Event Name: Team Flags
Description: Each team will design a flag representing each chapter on their team that highlights
the Greek Week theme and the team theme. Flags are intended to serve as a symbol for all
chapters on each team. Teams are encouraged to bring their flags to events throughout the week.

Rules:

Flags must conform to the model presented in this guide (See appendix D).
Flag dimensions must be no larger than 70x50
Flag poles may be no longer than 10
Flags are encouraged to include elements of the Greek Week theme, team member
chapters, and Kennesaw State University, but it is not required.
All flags should avoid the use of trademarked characters, fonts, titles, and any material
that may infringe on copyright policies. Please contact a member of the Department of
Fraternity & Sorority Life staff if you have questions.
Flags may only be in the possession of team members for the specific flag, members of
the Greek Programming Board, or Department of Fraternity & Sorority Life staff. Any
theft, destruction, or other misuse of a teams flag by another team will result in the loss
of the offending teams points for this event.
Approved additional materials include: cloth, burlap or other fabrics, paint (all forms),
glitter, feathers, sequins or other decorative beads, and glue or other forms of adhesive
(i.e. tape, staples, etc.).
If you do not see an additional material listed here that you wish to use, please contact the
Greek Programming Board Advisor for approval

Explanation of Points: This is a completion-based event and all teams who meet the objective,
design a flag that aligns with the description above, will be awarded full points. Points will be
awarded to each team that has their completed flag approved by the Greek Programming Board
and/or a member of the Department of Fraternity & Sorority Life staff by 5:00PM, Monday,
April 10th.

Event Name: Opening Ceremony/ All Greek Photo

Description: Each year during Greek Week, we bring the entire fraternity and sorority
community together, students, faculty, and staff, for a group photo to be shared with chapters and
used in the office materials and electronic media. In addition to the all-Greek photo, council and
chapter specific photos will be taken at this time as well if requested. Following the All Greek
Photo, Ben and Jerrys ice cream will be served on The Campus Green.

Rules:

Participants will be required to sign in at this event in order to be counted as present for
this event
Sign-in will be conducted by the members of the Greek Programming Board at the
Green.
Participants will need their KSU IDs to sign in as we will be using card swipes for the
event
Participants must be wearing their chapters letters in order to count towards the total

Explanation of Points: Points will be awarded based on the attendance of each team during the
event. In order to receive full points, a team must have at least 50 members present for the event.
Teams will receive a point for each member of their team that signs in up to 50 members. Teams
are encouraged to have more than 50 members attend.

Points Available: 100

Event Name: Case Study
Description: The case study topic will provide an opportunity for Fraternity and sorority
members to reflect and learn about the given topic. Additionally, the competition is an
opportunity to work as a team and problem-solve. Judging will be done based on the categories
of recommendations, team approach, content, delivery, and professionalism (See appendix C).

Rules:

Participants can be from any chapter on their team, even the same chapter. There is a max
of 4 total participants per team.
The case study will be distributed Friday, April 14. All participants from each team must
be present at the overview meeting in order to participate. Failure to comply will result in
the team being disqualified. Contact the GPB Advisor with extenuating circumstances
Each team will have 15 minutes to present on the case study, time will be kept by the
judges
There will be five minutes for questions following the presentation and then an
opportunity to provide feedback

Confidentiality regarding the cases use for the competition must be maintained at all times.
Participants may only discuss the case study with the other case study participants on their
team. They may not give the case study to anyone else to read. Participants may use other
resources that are available to them except another person as noted above.

Explanation of Points: Points will be awarded based on how each team performs in the
competition. A panel of 2 KSU faculty/staff/community members will officiate this event. Each
judge will fill out a score sheet for each performance (See Appendix C).

Event Name: Team Trivia

Description: This is a trivia game for all teams that will center on general knowledge, Greek
history, Kennesaw State University history, as well as questions centered around the Greek Week
theme. The game will be split into two rounds with two bonus questions at the end of each round.
The first round will consist of 15 questions worth 3 points each. The bonus question at the end of
the first round will be worth 15 points. The third round will consist of 15 questions worth 3
points each. The final bonus question will be a wager question worth up to 20 points.

Rules:

Participants can be from any chapter on their team, even the same chapter
Each team will be allowed a maximum of 10 participants but may compete with fewer,
but no less than 6
Teams may not share answers or collude in any way during the event
No participant will be allowed to look up answers on a phone, laptop, or other device.
Penalty for violating this rule may result in a team being disqualified for this event.
Any team member who leaves the room during a question may be asked to wait until that
question has been answered before returning to their team.
Questions during the first and second round are worth 3 points each. An incorrect answer
does not count against a team.
The bonus question at the end of round 1 will be worth 15 points. An incorrect answer
does not count against a team.
The final question is a wager-style question worth up to 20 points. Teams will submit
their wager along with their answer to this question. Teams that answer correctly will
receive points in the amount they wagered while teams that answer incorrectly will lose
points in the amount they wagered.
No substitutions will be allowed.

Explanation of Points: Teams will receive points based on their performance in the event.
Teams will receive points based on correct answers to questions.

Event Name: Tug-of-War (Womens & Mens)

Description: The Tug-of-War competition is a double elimination tournament. See Appendix F


for the bracket for this event. Seeds for the bracket will be determined by the outcome of the
Human Pyramid event. Prior to each individual tug-of-war match, each team will send one
representative to the official by the rope before letting the entire team advance to the rope. The
two representatives will shake hands, and a coin toss will be done to determine which side of the
rope each team will occupy. The higher seeded team will call the toss. After the toss, each team
will approach the rope, but will not pick up the rope. Once instructed, each team will lift the rope
but not pull. Once each team is set and the rope is centered, the official will give a signal and the
first team to pull the rope passed the mark (as determined by the official) wins.

Rules:

Participants in this event must have signed a Release Waiver (Appendix A)


Participants can be from any chapter on their team, even the same chapter
Closed toed shoes are required for this event, however cleats are not allowed
Gloves and/or chalk will be allowed for participants
Each team for this event will consist of 10 people, 10 female participants for the womens
bracket and 10 male participants for the mens bracket
A team may choose to use less people on their team and not be disqualified
During the actual pulls, there will be no wrapping hands/arms/etc. in the rope. Only a
closed finger grip on the rope will be allowed. Wrapping the rope around yourself (i.e.
anchors) is not allowed for this event.
Each team is allowed one substitution during the competition, which has to be done
between the heats.

Explanation of Points: Points will be awarded based on how each team performs in the
competition. Officiating for this event will be provided by the Greek Programming Board and
staff members from the Department of Fraternity & Sorority Life.

Event Name: Human Pyramid
Description: The Human Pyramid competition is an event where teams will compete in timed heats
against one or two other teams. Heats will be determined by random draw facilitated by the Greek
Programming Board. Each team will participate in two heats. The three best (fastest) times from the first
three heats will compete in their second heat against each other. Places will be determined by each teams
best time of their two heats. The fastest time will win the competition. The competition will consist of two
parts:
Part One: Each participant will start behind the starting line in their designated team area. All participants
must spin around seven times on their own before cross the starting line.
Part Two: Once a participant completes part one they must run past the building line where each team
may build their pyramid. All six participants must cross the building line and participate in building the
pyramid. Below is an example of the structure that must be completed:

Each team for this event will consist of 6 people, three female participants and three male
participants
Each team must hold their pyramid for two counts which will be monitored by officials
In the event a participant does not complete part one that team may not complete their build until
that participant returns to the starting line and completes part one
Each team is allowed one substitution during the competition, which has to be done
between the two heats.

Explanation of Points: Points will be awarded based on how each team performs in the competition.
Officiating for this event will be provided by the Greek Programming Board and staff members from the
Department of Fraternity & Sorority Life. In the event of a tie, teams that are tied will participate in an
additional untimed heat. All ties will be settled after the initial placing has been determined. All tie-
breaker rounds must be held between the same participants as the initial rounds.

Event Name: Relay Race
Description: The Relay Race is a series of smaller races tied together in relay fashion to create
one large race. Each individual stage must be completed before the next stage in the relay may be
undertaken. For this event, each team will be given a token that contestants will need to carry
with them through each stage of the event and will be handed off to contestants as they complete
each stage. All materials for the race (including the token) will be provided. All teams will
compete in this event at the same time. Placement for this event will be determined by the order
teams finish in the womens Tug-of-War competition. The individual race events within the
Relay Race are as follows (in the order they will be completed for the relay):

Dizzy Bat (1 contestant): The contestant will start in the designated area with both feet flat on the
ground, both hands wrapped around the top of a baseball bat, their forehead touching their hands
or the end of the bat, and the other end of the bat on the ground. At the signal, the contestant will
complete five rotations around the bat without the bat leaving the ground and their forehead. A
member of the Greek Programming Board will observe the rotations and count out loud the
number of successful rotations for the contestant. Once completed, they will have to run to the
next stage of the relay to hand off their token.

Potato Sack Race (1 contestant): The contestant will start in the designated area standing inside
of a large burlap sack. Once they receive their token, they will have to hop to the next stage of
the relay to hand off their token. Contestants may not take their feet out of the sack until they
have crossed the end of the stage.

Donut on a String (1 contestant): The contestant will start in the designated area and once they
receive their token they will run to the donut on a string station. The contestant must consume
the donut without the use of any part of their body but their mouth. Once they complete the task
they return to the designated area. The next contestants may not start until the contestant has
crossed the end of the stage.

Three Legged Race/Puzzle (2 contestants): Two contestants will be bound together at the ankles
with one ankle free each in the designated area. Once they receive their token, they will have to
run to the next stage of the relay and complete a puzzle and then return to the designated area to
complete the relay race. Contestants may not become unbound until they have crossed the end of
the stage.

Participants can be from any chapter on their team, even the same chapter
Closed toed shoes are required for this event, however cleats are not allowed
Only participants will be allowed into the playing area, no spectators will be allowed to
interfere with the competition (left to the officials to judge)
Before a contestant can start the next stage of the relay, they must have the token in their
possession
In the event that a team skips a leg of the relay or breaks the rules of any stage of the
relay, that team will be required to complete that stage of the relay again before it can

progress, even if that means that additional stages must be completed again.
No substitution will be allowed for this competition.

Explanation of Points: Points will be awarded based on how each team performs in the
competition. Officiating for this event will be provided by the Greek Programming Board and
staff members from the Department of Fraternity & Sorority Life. In the event of a tie, teams that
are tied will participate in round(s) of balloon toss until the tie(s) have been settled. All ties will
be settled after the initial placing has been determined. All tie- breaker rounds must be held
between participants from the initial rounds.

Event Name: Capture the Flag
Description: Each team will participate in capture the flag where the objective of the game is to
accumulate the most amount of points by collecting flags from other teams and retaining your
own flags during each heat. Refer to Appendix E for diagram of playing area. Four teams will
participate at a time and will have a designated quadrant to defend. Each team will have three
flags in a designated area of their quadrants. There will be six participants from each team
participating during each heat (two substitutes). There will be a total of seven heats lasting ten
minutes each, meaning each team will participate four heats. Points will be awarded as follows:

3 points for each flag collected from another team heat


1 points for each flag retained per heat
5 points for finishing a heat with a flag from all for participating teams
A max of 35 points may be earned per heat
Rules:

Participants in this event must have signed a Release Waiver (Appendix A)


Participants can be from any chapter on their team, even the same chapter
Teams will have a max of eight participants, four female participants and four male
participants (two will serve as substitutes, one man and one woman). Six will participate
during each heat, three men and three women.
All participants will wear flag belts and if their belt is pulled in an opposing teams
quadrant they must collect their belt and check-in with an official assigned to their
quadrant before returning to the playing area
Unless a participants belt has been pulled they must remain on the playing area, cannot
go out of bounds. Failure to comply may result in disqualification from the remainder of
the heat.
Participants must return to their quadrant with an opposing teams flag in order to earn
points, if they have their belt pulled prior to entering their own quadrant they must
relinquish the opposing teams flag and return to their quadrant and check-in with the
official before returning to the playing area. The team flag must immediately be returned
to the designated area.
A participant may only capture one flag at a time, whether it is an opposing teams flag or
recapturing their own flag that had been taken prior
Participants may not pass and/or handoff flags to teammates in order to

Substitutions may only be made before a heat starts or if permitted by an official due to
injury or extenuating circumstances.

competition. Officiating for this event will be provided by the Greek Programming Board, staff
members from the Department of Fraternity & Sorority Life, and intramural sports.

Event Name: KSU Day of Service

Description: The Greek Programming Board has partnered with VKSU to highlight the KSU
Day of Service during Greek Week. Each team is encouraged to share this opportunity with team
members. All participants must check-in with VKSU on the morning of the event and with the
Greek Programming Board to earn points for your team. In order to earn points, each team must
have a minimum of eight team members check-in and check-out following the event. More
participation is encouraged.

Rules:

Participants in this event must have signed a Release Waiver provided by VKSU

Participants can be from any chapter on their team, even the same chapter

Closed toed shoes are required for this event

All participants must register prior to the event online via the VKSU website

Explanation of Points: This is an attendance-based event and all teams who meet the objective
points will be awarded to each team that has a minimum of eight team members attend. The
Greek Programming Board and/or a member of the Department of Fraternity & Sorority Life
staff will confirm attendance and assign points on April 22.

Points Available: 50

Event Name: Dance/Skit Competition
Description: This is a dance/skit competition between teams. Teams will perform a routine
prepared beforehand for a panel of judges comprised of KSU faculty, staff, and/or community
members. Each team will be given assigned time to practice beforehand on the Amphitheatre
stage that it may choose to use or not. Judging will be done based on the categories of difficulty,
creativity and showmanship, story line, props, and costumes (See Appendix C). The practice
times and order that groups will perform in will be randomly assigned prior to the start of Greek
Week.

Rules:

Participants can be from any chapter on their team, even the same chapter
The performance can be no longer than 7 minutes for a single team
Teams may choose to incorporate non-dance elements such as cheers, spoken word, etc.
into their performance
Performers may swap out throughout the performance and not all performers need to be
on the stage the whole time if the team so chooses
Teams are limited to a maximum of 20 total people on the stage at any given point in
their performance
Chapters must provide their own music and props. A DJ will play the music.
A team will have four minutes following the end of their performance to clean the stage
area. Five points will be deducted from the teams final score for each additional minute
after the four-minute period.
Music, props, costumes, and routine must not be vulgar. Performances deemed vulgar
by 3 or more judges will result in that group being disqualified and forfeiting all points
for this event.
Music and a list of props must be submitted to the Greek Programming Board by 5:00pm
on Friday, March 31st.

chapters will be held responsible for any damages that may result.
Any special effects must be approved through the Greek Programming Board and GPB
Advisor.
No object shall be thrown off the stage into, or handed to, the audience.
In the event of multiple groups using similar or identical music, those groups will be
made aware of the similarities by April 10th, or sooner, depending on when the similarity
is detected. If groups have similar music and it is determined that one group must change
their selections, the decision will be initially left up to the group that turned it in first
whether they want to change their music or not. If the group that submitted their music
first elects to keep their music, the other group(s) will have to change their music.

Explanation of Points: Points will be awarded based on how each team performs in the
competition. A panel of KSU faculty/staff/community members will officiate this event. Each
judge will fill out a score sheet for each performance (Appendix B). The score for each team will
be determined by dropping their highest and lowest score sheets and adding the remaining three.
In the event of a tie, the teams who are ties will have their scores adjusted by adding all five
score sheets (no dropped scores) to break the tie. If a tie still persists, the judges will be asked to
vote among the teams to settle the tie (simple majority). There will be a best costumes winner
and best props winner based on the highest cumulative scores in each category from all judges.

Event Name: Philanthropy Donations

Description: Donations will be taken upon entry of Greek Get Down in support of Loving Arms
Cancer Outreach. Each team will be provided with their own bucket set up to collect donations.

Many recreational activities and athletic programs involve substantial risks of bodily injury,
property damage, and other dangers associated with participation in such activities. Dangers
include but are not limited to: hypothermia, strains, sprains, bruises, broken bones,
concussion, heat exhaustion, heart attack, and drowning. Each person should be aware of the
risks inherent in participating in these activities. It is the sole responsibility of the individual
to participate only in those activities for which he/she has the prerequisite skills,

guarantee in any respect the competency, mental or physical condition of its employees or any

1. Take your twin sheet, and tape it to the wall vertically, trace your image on the bottom
half of the sheet.
