Entry
Survey: An online quiz survey has been created on SurveyMonkey. Prior to reading the
book, students will be required to complete this survey to assess their current knowledge of
Pride and Prejudice. Results will be saved and later given back to the students at the end of the
unit to show them how much they have learned.

Formative
Timeline: An assignment where students to create a historical timeline, on one side would
be significant events in Jane Austens life and on the other side would be notable world events.
This is to facilitate learning and assess understanding of how historical events may influence an
author and their writing.
Graphic Organizer: Students are to create a mapping chart to detail the relationships
between characters in Pride and Prejudice. Each character entry should have a student written
paragraph about their personality and role in the story. This is to assess understanding about the
novel characters.
Quiz: A multiple choice quiz will be given about events in the story surrounding the
Bennet and Bingley families. This is to assess reading comprehension about the events in the
novel.
Reading Journals: As we read through the novel, students are to write a brief journal entry
as they finish each chapter. These journals can be either comments or questions about chapter
events, characters and/or vocabulary. When collected, they are to be graded more for completion
than content.

Summative
Scene Recreation: Students will be grouped up to recreate a scene from Pride and
Prejudice and translate it into a modern setting. They can either choose to perform in front of the
class or create a video. This will use their knowledge theyve learned throughout the unit, such as
time period, characters, relationships and more.
Essay: Students are to write a three to five page essay on Pride and Prejudice. The
specific topic and thesis can be their choice and can range from the theme of the novel, to
character development.
