Incertaindesigns,thebodyislinedwitharesilientmaterialsuchasNitrilerubber.Ethylene
PropyleneDieneMonomer(EPDM),PTFE.Themetallicdiscwithorwithoutcoatingensures
propersealingagainsttheseliners.Byselectingproperdiscmaterial,thistypeofvalvecanbe
usedforcorrosiveservices.Thebodycouldbeofanymaterial.Therearenogasketsneeded
fortheinstallationofthesevalves.

Incertainotherdesigns,thebodywillbeprovidedwithsoftseatinsteadofaliner.Thisseat
flexesagainstthesealingedgeofthediscwhenthevalveisclosed.TheseatismadeofPTFE
withcertainreinforcements.ThisseatingisdesignedtoreplacethePTFEseatswhenwornout.

Anotherdesignistheoffsetshaftandeccentricdiscdesignwhichimpartscammingactionto
thedisc.Inthis,thestemcentreline,thedisccentrelineandthepipecentrelinesareoffset.

Thisfeaturecausesthedisctoswingcompletelyoutofcontactwiththeseatuponopening,
eliminatingwearpointsattopandbottomofseat.Onclosing,thediscmovestightlyintothe
flexiblelipforreliableseatingaroundtheentireseat.

Shaft:

Asfarastheshaftisconcerned,therecanbeasingleshaftoramainshaftandastubshaftin
butterflyvalve.

Limitations:

Theuseofthistypeofbutterflyvalveforhightemperaturesislimitedbythematerialusedfor
seats.

Onlyresilientseatscanprovidepositiveshutoff.Metallicseatingcanalsobeprovidedforuse
athighertemperaturesbutwillnotprovidepositiveshutoff.
