5.2 Pneumatic Impact Wrenches
5.3 Torque Wrench
5.4 Air Compressor
6. PROCEDURE
6.1 Supervisor/Foreman of the erection crew shall ensure that the foundation is released for the
erection activity.
6.2 Foreman to check the anchor bolts diameter and projection with steel structure base plates.
6.3 Pre-assembly of steel structure frames will be done. i.e. frame by frame. Connection for
pre-assembled frames will be tightened to snug tight to prevent damaging the bolts during
erection.
6.4 ladders will be secured to frames prior to erection to provide access for erectors when
frames are in vertical position.
6.5 Erection of frames by using suitable and adequate crane as per following:
6.5.1 Erection of frame around brace zone and complete erection for vertical bracing,

6.6 Tir-For or steel wire rope will be used to keep frames in vertical position till second frame
is installed and interconnecting beams between frames are erected.
6.7 Life lines to be used at different elevations to secure the safety harness of the erectors.
6.8 All material assembled or erected will be recorded by piece number on daily basis.
6.9 Preliminary tightening of the structure components.
6.10 Alignment of steel structure will be done with the assistance of surveyor using tir-for and
wedges to get the columns vertically upright within project allowed tolerance.
6.11 Alignment and verticality to be released to Q.C.
6.12 By the same sequence the upper level of pre-assembled frames shall be erected starting
from brace zone.
6.13 Bolt tightening shall be as per AISC section-5 page-73 clause-8. d2 using torque wrench
method as follows:
6.13.1 Connections shall be installed in properly aligned holes.
6.13.2 Torque bolts will be marked so they can be easily identified during inspection.
6.13.3 Bolts shall be installed in all holes of the connections.
6.13.4 Bolts shall be tightened by impact wrenches and brought up to required torque.
6.13.5 By using calibrated torque wrench check bolt tightening will be done as per
attached table.
6.14 General
6.14.1 Painting touch up shall be done wherever on the ground and after erection.

6.14.2 Bolts, nuts and washers shall be stored carefully in store and arranged per size and
length and delivered for erection areas in carton containers by the same
arrangement.
6.15 QC Access to Bolted Joints to be clear
6.15.1 Access to the tightened joints will remain in-place until Bolt tightening is
completed. (Ladder, Scaffolding if required, Man Lift or Man Basket if needed.)
7. SAFETY
In addition to the Project Safety Plan the following shall be implemented:
a) Job safety analysis is attached.
