Introduction to Business and Technology

FRANCHISE PROJECT

Objective: Research and compare franchise opportunities, learn advantages and disadvantages of
franchising, and cost and fees of purchasing a franchise.
Standards:

BMA-IBT-7 Demonstrate an understanding of entrepreneurship through recognizing a business


opportunity, how to start a business based on the recognized opportunity, and basics of how to
operate and maintain that business.
7.4 Examine the business opportunities available in local school and community.
7.6 Differentiate between the types of business ownership.
BMA-IBT-6 Use professional oral, written, and digital communication skills to create, express, and
interpret information and ideas.
6.5 Using presentation software, create and deliver simple, clear and compelling presentations
effectively to target audiences.

ELACC9-10SL4: Present information, findings, and supporting evidence clearly, concisely, and logically such
that listeners can follow the line of reasoning and the organization, development, substance, and style are
appropriate to purpose, audience, and task.
ELACC9-10SL5: Make strategic use of digital media (e.g., textual, graphical, audio, visual, and interactive
elements) in presentations to enhance understanding of findings, reasoning, and evidence and to add interest.

Procedures:
You will need to research franchise opportunities. Choose two franchises to research, and complete the
accompany worksheet. Use the worksheet you have completed and the research you have performed to
choose one of the franchises and create a presentation to be given to the class.

Day 1:

1. Access one or more of the following web sites:


a. http://www.franchise1.com/
b. http://www.bison1.com/
c. http://www.entrepreneurmag.com

Day 1-2:

2. Choose two franchise businesses for each category that interest you and create a profile for each. The
profiles must include:
a. Description of product and services offered
b. Franchise fees
c. Average start-up cost
d. Royalty fees
e. Ranking according to Entrepreneurs Franchise 500

Day 2-4
3. Pick one of the franchise business and create a presentation to be share with the class.
