Unit: Shattered novel study


Time Frame: 17 lessons

Learning Task: Shattered Final Assignment

For your final assignment on the novel Shattered, you will choose one of the
following four options. Each option has a brief description and a check list
to help you complete all the requirements.

1. Tomorrows Letters
Write a future letter from one of the characters in the book to another
character in the book or another person. Your letter can be one year, five
years or ten years after the novel is set. You can choose to write a two-page
letter to one character OR you can write two one page letters that include a
response. Check out the requirements for this option below:

Double spaced
12-point font size
Two pages
Follows proper letter format (Dear, Sincerely, Date, address etc.)
Letter has been edited for grammar, punctuation and spelling

2. Draw Me Crazy
Make several sketches of some of the scenes in the book and label them.
Your sketches need to be large enough that you can include some detail
and character features. Fold your paper in half and in half again for a size
guideline! If you want to do a comic strip you will need to fill three pages
of a comic book.

3. Inner Thoughts Unleashed


Write a series of journal/diary entries from the perspective any character
in the novel. Remember to include detail and show me that you have
really thought about the themes of the novel. Make your journal entries
as creative and interesting as you can; put yourself into your characters
shoes.

Each entry is dated and follows a character from the novel
Entries are creative (written or typed in a way that resembles a
diary/journal)
Entries address different themes, issues or events in the novel
Entries have been edited for grammar, punctuation and spelling

4. Sing Song
Create a playlist for the novel with explanations for each song selection.
Make sure you look at our novels themes to find songs that relate. You
can also find songs that relate to the bigger issues of the novel such as
the Rwanda Genocide and Homelessness. If you wish to write your own
songs/poems you only have to create 5!
