MONOLOGUE PACKET
DESCRIPTION FOR PARENTS:
Parents,
Our next Unit is our Audition Unit. The culmination project is a monologue performance. A monologue is a
performance by one person. It is usually one side of conversation or scene from movie or play. Ive given the students
10 monologue choices for boys and 10 for girls. They are each 1-minute long. Beginning Students are required to
choose one of either genre. Any words that you feel are offensive may be cut out completely. Monologues will be
performed on March 15-16. If you will be gone during those days, please arrange a time with me to perform your
monologue before you leave. I will be using these monologues to audition the students for our class play.

Things to remember about acting:

Its about pretending you really are the person saying the lines! Use your imagination.

This is the point breakdown out of 100 points:

25 Points for use of class rehearsal time. (5 points per day)

20 Points for being memorized. *I do not allow script on stage, monologues MUST be memorized*
15 Points for proper audition attire. Please dress up the day of your audition. Boys will wear: white button
up shirt, tie, slacks, dress shoes. Girls will wear: options of: a dress, skirt and nice shirt, or dress pants and a nice
shirt.
10 Points for making your performance seem real and believable. Obviously, I will judge this based on my
understanding of 12 to 15 year-old acting ability. I lean more toward being generous.
10 Points for vocal & facial expression (fluency, pitch, tone, expression)
10 Points for having projection and enunciation.
10 Points for staging and body language.

Please support your student as they memorize and prepare their monologue. Your student will need to complete a
home evaluation. It is below.
