Aerodynamic Wings

Aerodynamic is the study about the motion of the air. Aerodynamic is used a lot to in

automotive industry such as car, airplane, and etc. According to this information, in airplane

aerodynamic is the lmos important thing because it is the biggest variable that will make the

airplane fly or not. Therefore, the concept of the airplanes wings is to make the pressure to the

level that be able to make the airplane to fly. The method is when the airflow through the wings

the wind that goes under the wings will go faster than it top of the wings, so it will cause a

different pressure then it will have the lift force that will lift the airplane up.

Objectives:

This purpose of this project is to prove that if we change the position of the airplanes

wings would it affect the way airplane fly.

Introduction:

In this project, we tried to prove that the position of the airplanes wings affect the ways

airplane fly. Aerodynamic is another causes that make the airplane changes it own direction.

The Aerodynamic in this way mean the study of motion about the air that affect the particular

objects or things. For instance, the aerofoil (the shape of the airplanes wings) have the

minimizes drag when the wind hit it. Therefore, the air that act on the airplanes wing might

change of the direction. Which may cause the airplane to go left, right or fall down to the ground.

Independent variable: The location of the airplanes wings

Dependent variable: Change in the direction of the airplane

Control Group:

- The size of the airplanes wings

- The size of the airplane
- Materials that use to make the airplane
- Wind and location when we test
- Force that we put on the Hand launch glider to make it fly

Method

1. Gather an equipment and material

2. Measure and mark a foam sheet with marker

3. Cut a foam sheet into five pieces; one for body, two for wings, and two for

airplane propellers(back).
4. Cut a foam sheet into a thin airplane-like. Also, have a room for two propeller at

the back of the plane.

5. Both airplane wings and propeller with needed to be cut into rudder-like to

increase it aerodynamic.
6. Use hot glue to sealed all the pieces together.
7. Make sure that the wings wouldnt fall off by finish it with a tape.

Materials:

-Foam sheet

-Marker

-Hot Glue

-Tape

-Cutter
-Measurement equipment

Data table:

This data table shows the distance of each position of the airplans wings

Position of Distance (m)

Wings 1 2 3 4 5 Avg

Front 5.97 m 4.78 m 5.24 m 6.03 m 7.51 m 5.906 m

Middle 10.67 m 9.34 m 13.71 m 19.86 m 22.18 m 15.152 m

Back 2.43 m 9.34 m 3.07 m 1.82 m 3.31 m 2.442 m

Analysis:
As the datatable show that the plane that we attract wings in front tend to fly far less than

the plane that we attract the wings in the middle. It also shows the similar with the plane that

have wings at the back. It also fly with the less distance same as the plane that have wings in

front. The plane that have wings in the middle tend to fly the farthest.

Error

- Human error
- Type of glue
- Wind that blow beside the airplane when we already launch it
- Structure of the airplane body
- Too thick, we build it with a height of 25cm and 50cm long.
- There is no the accurate launcher the be able to launch the airplane with the

same force
- While we were doing the experiment the some of the wings is broken, so the new

wings that we use may cause the error

Conclusion and Discussion:

In conclusion, the best one that we had done is the last one with the wings stick at the

middle of the airplane. It got the longest a distance than other because the weight of the wings

is balance to the body. Moreover, it is the position that when the airplane is flying the pressure

the involve on the wings are able to carry the airplane. However, this result is unacceptable, so

this experiment is fail because it has a lot of error. Therefore, if we have more time to do this

experiment we will make the launcher for to launch by using same force every time. Also we will

make our airplane stronger.
