Golf Lesson Plan

Pre-Instructional Plan

Lesson Focus: Golf

Grade Level: Y5-4th

Equipment/Resources Needed:
-Putters
-Balls
-carpet runners
-hole flags
-poly spots
-3 hula hoops
-colored cones
-Music

Safety Issues:
-students getting hit with the golf clubs-be aware of space and surroundings
-students getting hit with the golf balls

NASPE 1: The physical literate individual demonstrates competency in a variety of motor
skills and movement patterns.

NASPE 2: The physical literate individual applies knowledge of concepts, principles,


strategies and tactics related to movement and performance.

NASPE 4: The physically literate individual exhibits responsible personal and social behavior
that respects self and others.

The Learner and Learning


Standard#1: Learner Development. The teacher understands how learners grow and develop, recognizing that
patterns of learning and development vary individually within and across the cognitive, linguistic, social, emotional,
and physical areas, and designs and implements developmentally appropriate and challenging learning
experiences.

Psychomotor:
I can practice correct form when putting by:
- Keeping my feet in an A position
- Keeping my arms in a Y position
- Keeping my eye on the ball
Cognitive:
I can identify golf as an individual sport.
I can identify golf as a target sport.
Affective:
I can use the physical education equipment safely.
I can move around the gym safely.
I can take turns at each station.

Instructional Plan

Time Allotted Teaching and Learning Dialogue

2 minutes Welcome/Warm-up/Roll Call:


1. Greet students
2. Have students sit on the black line
3. Share Good Things
4. Explain that we are moving on to a golf unit

5 min Lesson Focus for Instruction and Drill:


1. Discuss and demonstrate the cues for correct form when
putting.
- Make an A with the legs and feet
- Make a Y with the arms and club
- Keep your eye on the ball
- Arrow at target
- Practice safety

3-5 minutes. Plan for Demonstration:


1. Walk students through each station by explaining and
demonstrating the station.
2. Have students sit while demonstrating and explaining.
3. Explain safety at each station as well as the goal.
4. Explain taking turns.
5. Pair up students with partners and assign them to a
station.
30 min. Lesson focus for Instruction and Drill:
- Students will begin at one station and rotate every 5
minutes.
- After 5 minutes at a station stop the music and instruct
students to touch the cone at that station.
- Wait until everyone has met at the cone to instruct
students which station their group will rotate to next.
- Start the music when everyone has gotten to their station.
- Make sure students are demonstrating the objectives for
the day and following instructions.

5 min. Transition from Drill to Lesson Closure:


After students complete their last station and touch the cone at
their station, instruct students to pick up everything at their
station and put it back to the way it was when we started.

-once stations are cleaned up, have students line up on the black
line at the door for dismissal.
