Shubh Jain discusses what a journalist should do if assigned to the "page three" beat, covering celebrities. He states that while chasing celebrities provides sharp gear, the work is soul-destroying from a journalistic point of view. Jain also discusses whether a journalist should always carry a resignation letter. He notes that most honest journalists will need to consider resigning at some point in their career. However, the need for survival often makes resigning difficult. The best insurance is to continuously improve one's skills, as being very good at one's job provides protection against long-term unemployment if forced to resign.

What should a journalist do if he is put on the page Three beat?
Before India became celebrity-mad, a rookie reporter usually found himself
starting from the crime desk. It was felt such an initiation would toughen up the rookie since he would be required to associate with the dregs of society. These days they fit the rookie up in sharp gear and make him chase celebrities. I do not wish to sound snobbish but once every two years you will find me making a fool of myself at a celebrity frolicbut from a journalistic point of view, it is soul-destroying work.
Should a journalist always carry his resignation letter in his pocket?
This is a tough one. Most honest journalists, at least once in their career,
Will need to take a call. In my own career,on more than one occasion, the necessity for dal-roti has made me think three times before going up to my boss and uttering the dreaded words, 'I QUIT'. I can think of only one insurance. Whether you are a sub-editor or photographer or assistant editor make sure you are the best. The quest for self-improvement is never-ending.Believe me, if you are good at your iob you might face unemployment. But it won't be for long.
