For the first five questions, if you got any wrong, write out these

directions three times each THEN FOLLOW THEM in order to get

the correct answer. Write the formula and the correct name of
any you got wrong three times each.
The first name in the ionic compound is the cation which you
take directly from the reference tables (the same as the
element name).
There are Roman numerals in parentheses only if there is
more than one oxidation number for the cation. The number
expresses the charge on the cation. YOU WILL HAVE TO
CALCULATE IT BASED ON THE MOLECULAR FORMULA AND
THE CHARGE ON THE ANION.
The second name is the anion with a suffix of ide if it is
monatomic.
If it is polyatomic, you will find its name in the reference
tables on page 2, table E.

For the next five questions, if you got any wrong, write out these
directions three times each THEN FOLLOW THEM in order to get
the correct answer. Write the name, the synthesis reaction to find
the formula, and the correct formula of any you got wrong three
times each.
The first name given is the cation. Find its symbol on the
periodic table
Find its charge in the upper right corner of its box on the
periodic table.
The charge is also known as its oxidation state/number
If there are Roman numerals in parentheses, the charge is
that same number
The second name is the anion. If it is monatomic, its symbol
and charge can be found on the periodic table. Many anions
have more than one oxidation state listed. Use the first one
whenever describing ions.
If it ends in ate or ite it is polyatomic and its ionic formula
and charge can be found in the reference tables on page 2
table E
Set up a SYNTHESIS reaction using the cation and the anion
as the reactants
The charge on a compound must equal zero. You need to
decide what ratio of the reactants to use to achieve a neutral
compound.
The number of each ion used will be expressed in the
formula as subscripts
Polyatomic ions work the same way, but in order to add a
subscript, you will need to put the entire ion in parentheses.

For the Lewis Dot diagrams, if you got any of the ions wrong, write
the following directions three times each, then the ion name and
its correct Lewis Dot diagram three time each.

All metal ions will be written in the following format, where M

represents the atomic symbol, brackets indicate an ion, and
the positive charge will be the oxidation number or the
oxidation state indicated by a number in roman numerals:

[M] +
All non-metal ions will be written in the following format,
where Nm represents the atomic symbol, brackets indicate
an ion, eight dots indicate a full octet and the negative
charge will be the first oxidation state for the element.

For Lewis Dot diagrams of ionic compounds, place ion

diagrams next to each other, alternating positive and
negative, using as many ions as needed to show a neutral
compound. For example:

+2
[M]
For END, questions, if you got any wrong, write the definition for
END and how to calculate it three times each then show you work
calculating the ones you got wrong three times each.

For Matching questions, if you got any wrong, write ALL THREE
types of bonding and the appropriate description three times
each.

For Identifying bond type questions, if you got any wrong besides
the last two (the challenge questions) write out three times each
which components are found in each of the three types of bonds.
Then for each question you got wrong, identify the type of each
element in the compound and tell which type it corresponds to
three times each.
